I have a list my mother compiled in the 1980s with the names and spouses of George Jr's children. She got some of the names from his will but unfortunately we do not have a copy of this will. I descend from George's daughter Elizabeth who married John Scott. I also have another mysterious Rudy farther down my family tree & would be very appreciative if anyone knows who her parents are. Her name was Caroline Rudy and she married Cyrus Scott in Barree Twp, they initially lived next to Cyrus's father George Scott in Barree & later lived in Jackson,& Porter Twp & Petersburg. The date of her birth is difficult to know RE: A DAR app for the Scott family lists her birth as 1848, her tombstone in Cedar Grove Cemetery appears to say 1849 & my mother's notes on her death certicate (which I don't have a copy of) states she was 78 yr and 29 da at the time of her death. She died 3 May 1919. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church in Petersburg. Would you happen to know if any of the Bruce family migrated to North Carolina? I have in my data base a Jacob Bruce born abt 1804 in North Carolina, parents unknown. His father may have been named William Bruce, as his first child and son, was named William H. Bruce. By 1835/6 Jacob Bruce was in Monroe County, Missouri, where he married Eliza Ann or Ann Eliza Smith, daughter of Hugh Smith Jr., and Ann {McGee} Smith. Jacob and Ann Eliza had children, William, Elizabeth, H.L., Mary I., Margaret and Clarinda. I do have a little more on the Bruce children if you are interested. Any knowledge of any of the above names? Thank You, Judy Smith/Colorado
Judy - All the Bruces in family tree are on my husband's side - and they are from Massachusetts and New York. None have moved anywhere else. Sorry for not being of more help. The Bruce name is so common that research sure can be difficult - especially in New York state. Some records of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in York are contained in "York County Pennsylvania Church Records of the 18th Century", Volume 2, by Marlene S. Bates and F. Edward Wright, reprinted in 2003 by Colonial Roots, Lewes, Delaware. Since this volume covers records only to 1800, there is no marriage info on Jane Baxter & Samuel Landis. If you are referring to the Revolutionary War officer, Jacob Dritt, (not Jacob Tritt), his body was never found. In his day, he used the surname Dritt as is evidenced in land applications and church records. He was swept down stream when he was trying to return to the York County side of the river, after doing banking business in Lancaster County. Months later, a body presumed to be his, was found washed ashore in Maryland. They could not 100% identify the body but buttons on the clothing and the money in a pocket, highly suggested it was Col. Jacob Dritt. His wife is buried in the cemetery and some children and their spouses. Yes, I have been in the Dritt Mansion as some call it, many times. Before it was renovated, while it was renovated, and since it has been renovated. Periodically, they have an open house for the public and have someone tell "the story". Mellisa, I know the location of the following cemeteries: Stone Church - I assume is St. Jacob's (Stone) Church, located in Codorus Township, southern York County. Roth - This may be Roth's Church, located in Jackson Township, just outside of Spring Grove Borough, York County. Keep in mid, there are two (2) Roth's Churches, both within site of each other. One is the Reformed congregation and the other the Lutheran congregation. I hope this is helpful. If you would like additional information on these two cemeteries, please let me know. Also, anyone needing information/lookups on burials or baptisms at St. Paul (Zeigler's) Church, Seven Valleys (North Codorus Township), York County, please let me know....I have all of the burials from 1771 through today. According to the map it appears to be situated in a constructed area just before Burgs Lane overpass where WSBA is. From 462 take Keeney Lane to Susquehanna Plaza Drive. Just after the turn you'll see a big green fenced in area. From Rt 30 side you can see a lot of construction debris inside the fence. I am afraid to say I believe this is the cemetery. years ago I stopped and asked at the local businesses if anyone knew where the cemetery was and if this was it. No one knew. Does anyone know? Beth, I am just trying to map them out for my own information. I assume they were transcribed in the 1930's. Out of curiousity do you know if Jacob Tritt burried at Tritt Cemetery? I got to see the inside of the old Tritt home when they were restoring it. Pretty impressive for its day. Would love to get a peek at it finished. Thanks, Melissa In a message dated 3/14/2009 5:05:48 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, llfish@yorkinternet.net writes: I live in Lower Windsor Township, and within 500 yards of the Dritt cemetery. The correct/current name for the cemetery is the Tritt cemetery. It is/was on private land along the Susquehanna River in the area called Long Level. York County recently was "forced" to buy the property and other acres from the Ronald Kohr estate. The cemetery was last used in the early 1800s. It is a family cemetery. Those who care for the cemetery live in Carlisle, PA. Let me know what you need to know. The Dosch cemetery is also a private/family cemetery near the Dritt/Tritt cemetery. It is on private lands. Kathy , I wasn't complaining just seeking information. I thought that was what this site was for. I also never made the suggestion that your work was substandard either I was referring to the list which you said was old that was not your work so why take offense? I never made any reference to you. Charles did. Charles mentioned I should ask you where these were located and I figured if I'm local and you aren't why should I expect you to know when I don't? I'll check out the new site when I get a chance. The reason I don't go to the YCHT is because I am currently disabled. Melissa Have a nice day n a message dated 3/14/2009 4:44:18 P.M. I am sure it isn't free of errors, but I do the best I can with what I have to work with. There are 27 cemeteries in Hellam Township, some of which are no longer in existence. Since you live so close to the York County Historical Trust, I would suggest you make the short drive and ask Lila where the cemeteries are located. She is the most knowledgeable person on this subject. While it is true that I don't live in Hellam township, that does not prevent me from contributing data that certainly benefits many other researchers. Kathy, I made no reference to you doing a poor job or any such complaint I only mentioned that you were working with what other people had submitted to you. Charles tossed up the idea that I should ask you where these were all located and If I am local and haven't a clue where some of these are why should I think you would? I think if you re read this you'll see that is what I meant. I never insinuated your work was substandard Nor was I complaining only seeking information. about the list I mentioned.
