My great great great grandfather was Isaac Conklin born 1804 West Hempfield, Lancaster PA. Isaac married Anna ? and had a daughter Barbara born c 1840 (married Joel/Joseph Foreman). I've noticed on different web links that Nicholas Hougendobler's daughter Barbara was married to Samuel Conklin(b 1804), and they had a son Isaac. Looking for confirmation that this the same as my ancester. Look forward to hearing from you. Regards John Kelly Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Jacob Sipe died at home 17 Feb 1923 near Wago York Co. This is near where Conewago Creek empties into the Susquehana. Henry Sipe,Seip,Seib,Sip was single in Manchester taxes in 1827. This shows he was born abot 1805-6. The only Sipe in 1810 and 1820 census with a male this age is Andrew. Andrew born 1775 or earlier based on the 1810 and 1820 census and the Manchester tax records which show Andrew in 1797. Andrew is probably the son of Andrew if Dover Twp who died before 3/26/1794.If so he may be the son of Andrew and Eva born 21 May 1773 recorded in the Quickel's church record. I have a Bible that was apparently owned by the Jodor Masemore (many spellings ensued) referenced in several family trees. The births listed in the publicly-posted family trees are hand-written in this Bible. The problem I have is that my great-grandmother, Amelia Jane Masemore, daughter of Leah Amspacher Masemore, was said to be the daughter of a Daniel Masemore, who died young. Leah A. and Amelia Jane Masemore were living with Leah's parents, George and Christena Amspacher at the time of the 1860 Census. THis suggests that Leah was in fact a widow only three years after her daughter's birth. I also have Amelia Jane's hand-drawn baptismal record, and it lists Leah and Daniel Masemore as the parents. The difficulty is that I can't find a Daniel as being born to any of Jodor Masemore's children. Having the Bible convinces me that there is a link, but I haven't been able to find it. brent.sweitzer@multek.com Do you know of a Daniel Masemore, with a date of death around 1859? The Masemore's originate from Codorus Township, York County, c. 1755. Yoder Masemore had several "original" PA land grants in the southern section of that township. Still searching for the descendants of John and Margaret Smith who lived in Huntington Township of York County in the 1700's. John Smith died in 1785, Huntington Township, York County, PA Margaret Smith, maiden name unknown possibly went to live with their daughter Elizabeth after the death of John. Their known children, listed on the will of John Smith, were: George, John, Elizabeth, Eleanor and Hugh. Eleanor married Robert Crawford, and moved to Venango County about 1806. Hugh married Mary Hutton, they went to Virginia about 1780, then west to Mercer County, Kentucky before 1786. Also searching for the descendants of William and Elizabeth Smith who lived in Huntington Township of York County in the mid to late 1700's. William died in 1777, Elizabeth made their oldest son, James, administrator of William's estate. Elizabeth, maiden name unknown, possibly went to live with one of their children. Their known children: James, George, William and Eleanor. William was known to be an " indian fighter", had married to unknown, and had at least one child, Mary. William may also have been in either Tennessee or Kentucky. James married his possible cousin, Elizabeth, daughter of John, before 1786, and inherited some of the land of his father-in-law, John. Eleanor married David Beals , their movements unknown after their marriage, which was also before 1777. One of the two men named George Smith married a Sarah Brandon, inherited some of his father-in-law's land {Thomas Brandon} and as far as I know, stayed in Huntington Township, York County. The other George Smith was known to be a miller, and also may have stayed in the area. One of the two died between 1800 - 1810, the other died between 1810 - 1820. What happened to James Smith and his wife Elizabeth Smith is also unknown. If anyone has any information on this family I would be happy to share. Thank You Judy Smith/Colorado
Hi Judy in Colorado, I have both your John Smith and your William Smith listed with original lands in Huntington / Latimore Townships (John from 1743 and 1753 possibly two different men, and William from 1744 and 1786. The curious item about William is that he took out what was later determined as an interference warrant on the same property as George Brandon in Huntington Township; in my volume 2 for Adams County. For more on this and other original PA land records for York and Adams counties, see http://www.paland.us. My best, Dr. Neal O. In York there are Lether, Lethers, Leathers, Letter, Lether, Lather and Lethra. In the erly days there was no "official" spellings. Courts, Tax assessors ,census takers, churches etc. Spelled your name the way they heard it. Some times it was German on German or English on German or English on English etc. the best way to do yours is to trace your own genealogy. If you can get back to the 1900 census I'll see what I can do. A Lrederick Leathers came to America in 1728 on the ship Mortonhouse landing in Philadelphia. In 1736 he had land survryed in Manchester Twp York Co. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I'm not sure if I'm associated with that family or not. Most of my family is from York, PA or around that area, so it would make sense. Mainly I wanted to know how the name became Leathery (assuming Lethra was the original family name). Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
