Heinrich Schmidt was my 6th ggfather. Some of the information presented by Keith Dull is questionable. Dull has Heinrich listed as having 3 wifes. I can find no evidence that old Heinrich had any wife other than Margaret. I think Dull may have had his Schmidts confused. Also, Research of William S. Cramer in Smith family file 2711, 1992, York Historical Society Library. "Henry Smith emigrated aboard the ship Pennsylvania Merchant 11 Sept 1731 (Strassberger & Hicke pps 43,45,46.) Listed as Johan Hennrich Schmidt (SMIT, Johan Heindrick) with Margarite Smit (his wife). Since Heinrich's will was written in Hellam Twp on June 25, 1771 p. Sept 20, 1771 and executed by Maragaret Smith and Michael Trease, it would appear that a Margarite was his wife when he got here, and still his wife when he died. (my mother was named Marguerite) coincidence? Anyway, I would enjoy sharing information with you on the Schmidt family, Regards Roy Ruppert York, Pa [email protected] Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Joseph was the sixth son of John (ca. 1773-1831) and Elizabeth (d. 1840) Shellenberger. John's father was Johann Michael Shellenberger, mother Margaretha Fredel Shellenberger, and they immigrated to the U.S. in the mid-1700's from the German/Swiss border. John had brothers Philip (b. 1/23/1770) and Jacob who married sisters or cousins Mary Ann Keller and Elizabeth Keller. Happy hunting! I'm working on my mother's family's genealogy -- descendents of Johann Michael Shellenberger who married Margaretha in Berks Co., Pennsylvania. Johann lived from 1736-1826 and had three children, including second son John. THREE of John's nine children married Stricklers. John's second child, Anna Maria born in 1796, married Ulrich Strickler. John's third child, son Michael born in 1798, married Lydia Strickler. John's fourth child, son John born in 1801 married Mary Strickler and later widowed married Elizabeth Maul. (His younger brother Joseph also married a Maul, Anna Maria Maul.) Shirley, I am fairly sure that the Gibson "History of York County" book has been digitized and is available on the Heritage Quest website. Heritage Quest website is usually available as an online resource from your local library. As for gravestone photos, there are several options: 1) you may get a response from someone on this list that is local; 2) check RAOGK.org, go to the find a volunteer page and read the Volunteer information page, then locate a volunteer from the State and County you want photos from; or 3) enter the folks you are looking for into http://findagrave.com: register as a member (it is free) add the memorials and click on the "request a photo" box on the bottom right of each memorial. Best of luck.
