You wanted my Kohr information. I have done some work on the Jacobs side of the Kohr family. Are you interested in this information for your database? Thanks for the information on the Kauffman's. Thanks for responding so quickly. First, I am related to the Solomon and Wilhelmina Kauffman line. This information is from "A Genealogy and History of the Kauffman-Coffman Families." There are a few Henry's listed in this line, but they do not seem to connect with the Henry you mentioned. Second, I do not know where the Henry Kauffman home is that you mentioned. I do know that a Samuel Moser had property on the Wineka and Wagner properties located behind the old Ore Valley one room schoolhouse. The old Moser property is now Sage Hill by Stoltzfus. Several years ago, development of Sage Hill was halted because there is a revolutionary war cemetery on the land which descendants tried hard to find and preserve. There is a list of the ancestors in this cemetery at the Heritage Trust. Third, I am smiling! I believe your Solomon Kauffman and Rachel Dougherty Kauffman were the owners of the farm house on Route 74 just outside the Dallastown boro. I would nee! d to confirm the line, but the Heritage Trust has a picture of this house in the Kauffman file and Solomon and Rachel were the owners. The farm house, spring house, and barn are still standing on the left, leaving Dallastown toward York side. The farm house is near Locust Hill Road. Fourth, I am not sure about this Susannah Dougherty. I vaguely recall a Susan Daughtery, an old lady when I was in high school, living in Dallastown and going to Bethlehem UMC. Any connection? Five, so far I do not know how we may be connected, but I live near the Solomon Kauffman homestead and it's ownership is very interesting to me in light of my Kauffman connections. As I find more information, I will be happy to share it with you. Monica Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. This is the information from that book if you haven't seen it already: Henry Kauffman ( -Mar. 14 1796) md.Anna Maria. He died intestate, a resident of York Twp.,York, pa. He was listed as a taxable in 1783. His property was administered by the widow and Michael Seiz, the gunsmith, who later purchased a small part of the farm from the son Samuel. The farm apparently was between Dallastown and Spry. The widow seems to have married in 1806 to Samuel Moser, Jr. I am not aware of a Solomon md. to Whilhelmina or a Mary. My connections with the Kauffmans are: Elizabeth Kauffman daughter of Henry, who md. John Barnhart and Solomon Kauffman son of Henry, who md. Rachel Dougherty. I found a tombstone in Blymire's cemetery many years ago that said: Susannah K. Dougherty d. 10 Apr 1837 age 43 years. Do you know anything about this woman? I neglected to take a picture and now the stone isn't there. In the Kauffman book it lists a Susan Haas with the same death date, md. to Samuel Kauffman, son of Henry. In the Blymire cemetery record it lists a Susanna Kauffman with the same dates that I've given above. I copied the name and dates as I saw them from the stone when I was there many years ago. This is a puzzle that I'd like solved. Where do you fit in with Solomon and Rachel? Cheryl Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. On 27 Mar 2010 a lady at Mount Rose Cemetery (I can't remember her name) was very helpful showing me the plaque listing the names of those reinterred on 02 May 1964 from Erb Cemetery. Here are the photos. We also found a lovely, large, memorial stone for Samuel Landes' son, John Landes, and two wives, Catharine Strickler and Louise Williams, and their line. The memorial stone is situated in Garland Circle and cost $1. The History of York County 1907 by George Prowell indicates that Samuel Landes descends from (Ephrata) John Landes b. 1696 d. 1756 of Cocalico Township, Lancaster, PA. >From the Stricklers of Pennsylvania regarding John Landes' son, John Jacob Landes: "He was educated in public schools and in the York Collegiate Institute. After finishing his schooling he engaged in farming which has received most of his attention since, but in 1907 he was interested in developing large properties near York, available for building purposes. He is also a director of the Guardian Trust Company, of York, and president of the Mt. Rose Cemetery Association of which he was one of the original organizers. He and his wife resided on the old Landes homestead, two miles east of York, on Old Plank Road, the farm having been in the possession of the family for over 100 years." Regarding the Small Mill, it was rented by Cornelius Landes. I cannot find a connection of Cornelius Landes to the Landes' buried in Erb and Mount Rose cemeteries. It appears from the documentation that the first mill was built in 1821 and ran on water. I visited the remains of the second mill on the same day. It was built in 1885 and ran on steam. I do not know when it burned to the ground. Cut and paste this link into your web browser. http://www.mediafire.com/?qxi1y7nefg4ab It will bring you to a list of four files. By clicking on each file you will be able to open up documents relating to Smalls/Landes Mill, a Biography on John Landes and Landes Burial Records, as well as a slideshow of pictures I took while visiting the mill and two cemeteries. While researching my Kauffman's in the York Heritage Trust file, I discovered a home owned by Rachel and Solomon Kauffman. It is on 74 just outside the boro of Dallastown. The house is beige with burgandy trim with a summer house and a barn--all still standing. Is this the family that lived there? I have connected with a Solomon and Wilhelmina Kauffman. He may have married a Mary, too. The 1783 tax rolls indicate he, too, lived in York Township. Can you connect these dots?
