I am researching the family of my Great-great-great-grandfather, Joseph Payne/Paine c1762-1839, a widower who married Jane Rowe c1784-1850 in the village of Great Addington. [As neither Joseph Payne/Paine nor his wife Jane Rowe are recorded in the parish registers of Great Addington, except for this wedding and both their funerals, they probably came from another parish. Family tradition says that the Payne/Paine family originated in Thrapston where there were families of similar names about this time] The children from this second marriage were: Joseph bn c1813; Benjamin bn c1815; Ann bn c1821-1841; James bn & d 1823; William bn & d 1823; James c1825-1888 m 1848 Harriet Beeby c1831-1897; Eliza c1827-1829. William Payne/Paine and Harriet Beeby had the following children: William bn 1850 m[1] Jane Carl(e)ton m(2) Catherine 'Kate' Callaghan; Joseph bn 1852; Ann bn 1854; Robert bn before 1856; James bn before 1859; John bn 1860-1907; David bn before 1863-1943 m Margaret [He was landlord of the Hare and Hounds in Great Addington in 1914]; Sarah Jane bn before 1867; Eliza bn before 1867; Benjamin 1870 - 1931. Various official records give the surname as PAYNE and yet other records give it as PAINE for the same person. The family was still in Great Addington in 1943.
