I believe the birthplaces of some of the children to be in error and to actually be SC, NC and GA. Our Paynes seem to spend time in the relative proximity of the MD and VA Paynes so it's quite confusing and documentation beyond this generation I have yet to find. Asa was a blacksmith. Nancy's maiden name is Hollinshead/Hollingshead--a rare name in the South. Benjamin and Thomas Hollingshead came to NC from Maryland just prior to the Rev War, served from there, then sometime after the war to SC and then @ 1830's to AL. Years of searching and I have not been able to find a connection for Nancy.
