Hi list, I think I have finally found additional information on my gggrandfather, Charles Emanuel Payne. We knew from census info that he had been in the Union Army and enlisted in Indianapolis Ind. I recently subscribed to the HDS civil war page and found one Charles E.Payne who enlisted into 135th infantry on 5-23-1864 and mustered out on 9-29-1864 at Indianapolis. He listed his residence as Boone County Indiana, the only other Payne in Boone County to enlist was a John F Payne enlisted 9-18-1861 and was mustered into Co. A of the 10th infantry, mustered out 9-19-1864 at Indianapolis. He was reported as wounded but no info as to where or when. Does anyone know anything about the Paynes in Boone County? Also was there a township in Cass county named Boone? Any information would be appreciated
