    3. I would like to comment.. Yes the very early DAR applications were not always reliable but any after about 1960 are much better. You had to supply proof and in many cases the old proof was proved unreliable. In the first years, everyone wanted to be a DAR member. Thanks in advance, Peggy Hornick Iowa pegpowel@netins.net ---------- Ancestry.com added three books to their DAR database and threw the whole thing (all 140 books) open to the world to search for free for 10 days. The 10 days started before today, so hurry. The URL is http://www.ancestry.com/ancestry/search/3174.htm I found it did best with two names; the search window uses an implied "AND". That is, if you enter "Thomas Burnham" (Without the quotes) you get all the entries that contain "Thomas" and "Burnham". So, you'd get an entry that has "Joseph Thomas" and "George Burnham" as well as the one with "Thomas Burnham". If you enter just "Thomas" you'll get a gazillion hits. Also, I've been warned that early DAR applications could be suspect. About all you really had to prove was that you were a white woman with clean fingernails who could show up sober to afternoon meetings. Take everything you find as a clue to further research. The DAR will send you a copy of the original application for $5. It may have birth dates, birth places, and citations.
