My great-great Grandparents were Elvis Berry Turns and Louisa Emma PAYNE. I am trying to track down Louisa's parents. The TURNS family came from Butler and Ohio Co, KY, before coming to Texas. According to the 1900 Ellis County Texas Census, Louisa was born in July 1861 KY. Her parents were also born in KY. So, going backwards, I went to 1880 KY on the chance that she and Elvis TURNS were not yet married or in Texas. (Their eldest child, my great-grandmother was not born until July 1883). I found in 1880 Ohio Co, Ky (living near several TURNS families) was the family of DURRUM PAYNE age 48 & wife Harriet age 50. Daughter EMMA 18. Other children were Alfred 17, Joseph 11, Milton 9, and Virgil 6. In 1870 I found this same family, living near more TURNS families. Listed as DURREN PAYNE age 36 & Harriett age 38 with Elizabeth 15, Richard P 14, LOUISA E 10, Alfred P 8, and James T 11/12. This HAS to be Louisa Emma that married Elvis Turns. But I still want to be 100% before I put them in my family tree. In 1860 Warren Co, KY I found DURHAM H. PAYNE 30, and Harriett 25, with Elizabeth 8, Richard 6, and Ann 4. In 1850 Warren Co, Ky I found a John B. PAYNE family age 49, wife Elizabeth 55, Mary E 21, DERAM (?) age 18, John W 16, Manasah W. 13, Hiram Hart 23, and Frances Davenport 12. Nearby was the family of James G. Hammond, with a Derram PAYNE 19 living with them. These Derram/Deram are both near the right age, so I don't know which to claim, if either. Or could it be the same person, just listed in two households. (If he worked on the Hammond farm by day, but lived at home, he could be listed on both households by mistake. ??) Does anyone recognize this family??? ANY help appreciated. Thanks Pat
