Hi Listers, I am looking for parents/siblings of Silas Payne, b. abt. 1821, Va. and married to Mary Saunders, b. abt. 1826 and married on 24 Jan 1847. Last official record had them listed in 1850 Census, Roanoke Co., Va. under the name Paine. While his children were listed in the 1860 Census, Franklin Co., VA--Silas and Mary Payne seemed to have disappeared. It is possible that he was killed in the Civil War. I would like to hear from anyone who might have ancestor information on my Silas Payne, my 2nd great grandfather. Additional information: Silas and Mary Payne had two children: George R. Payne b. abt. 1848 and William A. Payne, b. abt. 1849.  William A. Payne married Mary Margaret Steele, b. about 1847 and married on 6 Feb 1868.  Mary and William Payne had seven children:  Alonzo, Erastus, Lucian, Loma, Denton, Grover Cleveland and Alma.  All resided in the Roanoke/Franklin Co. area (possibly Cave Springs District and Boones Mill). Silas Payne served as surety for at least five Payne marriages to include:  Peggy, Nancy, Richard Payne (all children of Isham Payne)  Also, the marriage of Chenesse Payne (father Joseph) and Jubal Payne.  It is believed that Silas is related to some of these persons.
