A retired farm equipment dealer and a resident of Baton Rouge, he died at 8 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Bluebonnet. He was 74 and a native of Magnolia, Miss. Visiting was at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday. Visiting at the funeral home chapel from 8 a.m. until religious services at 9 a.m. Saturday, conducted by the Rev. Tommy French. Graveside services at Silver Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Magnolia, at 1 p.m. Saturday. Survived by his wife, Genevieve Simmons Payne; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl Payne Campbell and Frank Campbell and Jan Payne Frey and Fred C Frey III; a son and daughter-in-law, John Michael Payne and Brenda Harper Payne; a sister Birginia Williams; and five grandchildren, London Campbell,DeMare, Barrett Campbell Hudkins, Charlie Frey, Genevieve Frey and Anna Frey. Preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, a brother , and a son Ricky. The roots of our family tree were planted deep in American soil. The trunk of the tree grew strong and it has many, many branches. Some branches are still bare and need your information. I will gladly exchange genealogy information with others.
