William Collet PAYNE was born 9 Jan 1805 in Ohio and believed to be the son of Thomas and Margaret PAYNE. His siblings were Susannah born 1801/02 who married Morgan LEWIS and died in Missouri; Morris P. born 1810/11 who married Eleanor "Nellie" LEWIS; Sarah born 1816/17 who married Charles W. RAY; Lewis born 1818 who married Tabitha Dorcas PETTY and later Priscilla C. SLAUGHTER; Rachel born about 1820 who married William Harrison MAYNARD; Morgan born 27 June 1823 who married Mahalia Frances FEAR; Celia born 1826 who married Benjamin WOODRING; and Mariah born 10 Sep 1827. William C. PAYNE above married Celia LEWIS, daughter of David LEWIS and Mary Elizabeth HAWKINS 27 Dec 1827 in Franklin County, Indiana. He died 10 Sep 1875 in Grant County, Indiana, and she died 16 May 1870. They were both buried in Fankboner Cemetery in Grant County. Their children were 1) Morgan L. born 29 Dec 1828 and died 13 Jun 1855; 2) Thomas L. born 19 Nov 1829 and died in the Civil War; 3) James Green born 14 Aug 1831 in Franklin County, IN, and died 22 Nov 1877 in Grant County, IN. He married Louisa J. OSBORN. 4) George Washington "Jack" born 20 Apr 1833 and died 18 Mar 1867 and married Margretha HENDERSON 3 May 1853; 5) Morris born 29 Jun 1835 6); David Lewis born 30 Dec 1836 and died 27 Nov 1884 in Wellington, Kansas; 7) John D.F. born 18 Apr 1838 who married Phebe WALKER; 8) Margaret Emily born 9 Mar 1840 who married William A. CHRISTIAN; 9) Wesley E. born 15 Feb 1842, died 5 Jun 1872, and married Mary Dulcena HOLLIS; 10) Allen Wiley born 13 Jun 1845, died 14 Jan 1898, and married Bathsheba NOSE 20 Dec 1869; 11) William L. born 10 Jun 1847 and died 6 Dec 1869; 12) Elizabeth Jane "Jennie" born 14 Aug 1850, died 27 Jan 1928 in Kansas, and married Milton BREWER 23 Mar 1871.
