    3. A NOTE OF ENCOURAGEMENT: If someone on the list does live near the U of VA & has worked in the manuscript material directly, I would urge him/her to continue to do so, with the goal of published extracted material on this list, leading up to a more complet hardcover publication. Such a project would be ideal for Gateway or Genealogical Pub or Heritage Books and would be a MAJOR contribution to 16th-19 cent. historical and genealogical research. I myself am working in the Shattuck papers at the NEHGS. So far, there's nothing there that Shattuck hasn't touched on in his pioneering NE works, but there is material highly usuful for individvual families. I'm preparing a more detailed catalog for my own use but will give to the Society, which has recognized how vastly underutilized its mansucript holdings are (mostly due to the bibliographic problem of poor catalog which puts a significant barrier in front of people doing name searches). So, if anyone has used these Payne papers, please consider undertaking it as a serious scholarly endeavor. After all, do this right and your name will NEVER go out of print! ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
