On Friday January 21, 2000 this obit appeared in the Chillicothe, Ohio Gazzette MAJOR PAYNE Major Payne, 89 of Waverly, Oh formerly of Chillicothe, Oh died 1:05 p.m. Wednesday January 19, 2000, inthe Pike Community Hospital following an extended illness. He was born October 6, 1910, in Ross County, Ohio to the late William and Mary Swayers Payne. He was first married tothe former Nan Lightle who died in 1980, and later marrried the former Ethel Baker Tatman who diedin 1995. Surviving are daughter and son-in-law Jack Dunham,Waverly: son and daughter-in-law, Marvin E. and Ruth Payne, Chillicothe; 12 grandchildren 14 great-grandchildren; six stepchildren; a brother,Howard Payne, Washington Court House, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter Mary Jo Ramey, son William Bane Payne and brothers, Earl,Addie,Everett and Harley Payne. Mr, Payne was a member of the Haysville Community Church . In 1975 he retired from the Chillicothe Veterans Affairs Medical Center where he had been a carpenter for 30 years. Funeral services will be heald 1 p.m. Monday, January 24, 2000, in the Ware Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Blankenship officiating.
