Col. Brooke Payne died in the year following the publishing of "The Paynes of Virginia", therfore unable to pursue publishing other PAYNE volumes. However, his files survived him, I think in about 22 boxes which were contributed by his family to the University of Virginia Library. One needs permission from the university (& probably an appointment) to study his files. I'm working from memory here, and if I'm wrong, someone please correct me.
