Is George the son or brother of Fleming? The name "Evaline" in both families indicates they may be related somehow. Jasper Payne, b. in TN, married Mary Ann Woods in Monroe Co. TN, on 21 Jan 1852 and migrated to Carroll County, GA. Jasper died during the Civil war but left six children: Elizabeth PAYNE Joseph Joshua PAYNE F. Caleb (or Caliph) PAYNE James C. PAYNE Hannah PAYNE Rachel PAYNE I have a Fleming C. Payne (b. Jan, 1854) in 1900 Carroll County with wife, Retta (only married 2 years), and the following children: Charles PAYNE b. July 1878 Rosy? V. PAYNE b. Dec. 1881 Jasper PAYNE b. Feb. 1884 John PAYNE b. Mar. 1886 George PAYNE b. Jan, 1889 Rilla PAYNE b. Jan. 1891 Joseph J. PAYNE b. June 1893. Think this Fleming C. Payne might be Fleming Caleb/Caliph Payne, son of Jasper and grandson of Fleming Pane in Monroe Co. above. Date of birth of Fleming C. Payne in Carroll County coincides with date of birth of Joseph Joshua Payne (Jan. 20 1854) who was Caleb/Caliph Payne's twin brother. Carroll County marriage records show Caleb/Caliph may have been married twice. First to Fleman Luella Wilson on 2 Dec 1875 (groom's name given was Caliple Payne), and second to Retta Exum on 18 Nov 1897 (groom's name given was F.C. Payne). These dates fit with birth of children above, also name of second wife. Caleb/Caliph Payne was a Baptist minister in Carroll County, Georgia who served several churches in the area. His twin brother, Joseph Joshua Payne, was a Methodist minister who traveled the path of a circuit rider in the late 1800s. Joseph died in 1891 with typhoid fever. Caleb/Caliph died early 1900s. Joseph Joshua Payne was my great-grandfather. Grasping at straws. If I'm lost in left field, somebody please tell me. Any help appreciated. Many thanks, Judy
