David ----Original Message Follows---- From: KHDSK@aol.com To: otime@hotmail.com Subject: Family Bible Date: Thu, 26 Apr 2001 15:50:39 EDT Hi David, In the bottom of a trunk in my possession, I had placed a Bible given to me by an aunt who was born in 1895. It's been there for years, torn in the front and back, but I kept it anyway because she gave it to me and I loved her a lot. A few days ago my five year old grand daughter begged me to show her what was in my trunk, so I dragged out all the sweaters and other mementos at the bottom of it. Thanks to her, she wanted to see inside the bible. Where one usually sees the family history written down is in the middle, there was nothing, but towards the back, were four pages written in my gr-grandmother's hand, grandmother and my aunt were near the back of the book. Gr-grandmother, Mary Helen Hoskins (Payne) was born in 1853 in Tennessee and my grandmother Nora Payne (McGrew Kayler), was born 1877 in Huntsville, Alabama. The parts you might be interested in are as follows: Gr- great grandfather was Poindexer Payne, he cam from NC. Gr- great grandmother was Betty Ann and came from Germany. Great grandfather was Cleveland Payne. He was born 1814, died 3-27-1898 at age 84. Wife was Jaily Conn Payne, died Apr 6, 1877. Grandfather was Joel Nicholes Wm. Payne, born October 27, 1849 in Grundy Co., Tenn. The original owner of this Bible was his wife, Mary Helen Hoskins, daughter of Daniel Boone Hoskins, M.D. who came from Wales and Elizabeth Calvert of Kentucky. Written was he was full blooded Welch. I know you have the information, but thought you just might be interested in what was written in this Bible. Your distant Payne relative, Anita Kaylor Kilbourne Thanks, David S.
