Can anyone help Mary below on her Jesse Hall Payne? ----Original Message Follows---- From: "Mary Pat Webster" <mwebster@nova.edu> To: <otime@hotmail.com> Subject: Jesse Hail Payne Date: Wed, 2 May 2001 16:31:52 -0400 Hello...I think we share an ancestor. My info says he is my maternal great-grandfather JESSE HALE PAYNE and that he lived in or near Waldron, Arkansas, (Scott County) was born in 1824 and died April 13, 1905. Jesse was 81 when he died. He was a judge advocate during the Civil War. He was a judge later too. I assume that was for Ark or whatever regiment he was attached to. Yes, my info also says he came from Tennessee. Jesse had three (3) wives and my ancestress died young with only 3 kids I think...Dove, Eda, and Roscoe (maybe also a Ben). Her name was Harriet Hesentine MacIntyre (called Hess) and her people were distillers from Kentucky. I have a tiny new testament at home with the hand lettered names of all his children (by the various wives)... but the wives are not listed. It is probably in Jesse's own handwriting. It was my grandmother Dove Payne Williams' prized possession. What do you know about Jesse's background? If he was a lawyer (I assume a judge starts as a lawyer)...where was he educated? Do you know what part of TN or what county he came from? Please rsvp...I am really curious. Mary Webster P.S. I am just learing how to use the Excite section and do not understand it very well. I was afraid to download for fear of a virus. This is my work computer so I cannot risk it. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
