Hi Cousins: I will be gone for a week starting Saturday morning so I wanted to bring you up to date on what's going on. I received about 12 replies to the recent inquiry I sent on how we may best access the info in the 22 boxes of Col. Payne. Some suggested we contact the Mormon Church for assisstance. Two indicated they could go to Charlottesville for a brief period and work. Several of you suggested we employ such means as the use of digital photography or a flatbed scanner and convert to CD's. I'm taking these matters up with LDS in SLC and am awaiting their reply. They did indicate they would consider a proposal from us to microfilm the contents of the boxes and put on CD's, if we could assure them that some of the materials were NOT already contained in the "Payne's of Virginia".(I don't know how we would do that so if you have any ideas let me know). In addition, they would want to have the contents of the boxes organized so that a Table of Contents and /or Index could be created so that a patron could reasonably identify where to look once the CD were produced. That is where we would need some one on site to perform that task so filming could proceed. That task should be done anyway regardless of the method used to capture the information ie, digital or scanning. All for now. I'll get back to you in about a week. Don Payne
