Keturah Payne, daughter of Robert Payne and Ann Burton, was born 02 Feb1765 in Goochland Co., VA. She married Wynne Dixon of Caswell Co., NC, 08 Jan 1786 in Pittsylvania Co., VA. Rachel Paine, daughter of Thomas Paine and Catherine Lydford was born in Middlesex Co., VA. She married Samuel Smith of Essex Co., VA, before 20 Nov 1749 in Essex Co., VA. Can anyone tell me if these families are related?

Jim Currently, there is only a suspicion that the two families were related. The former descend from John Payne (d. 1689/90) of Westmoreland Co., and the latter from Ralph Payne, of Middlesex. The two families were neighbors and had been associated in several ways, but no records have firmly established a relationship between them. Stay tuned though.
