The Payne Memorial and Reunion is not far away (Sept. 9, in Lee County, MS) for those related to Capt. John Payne and his wives, Cassie Marcy Payne and Phoebe Caroline Cagle Payne. Even though Capt. John is buried in our cemetery (Payne Family Cemetery) its been very difficult to find any information about him during the Indian removal. He was not in the Civil war but 3 of his sons were, James William, Columbus C. and Benjamin F. were all in "the war". I think our John was probably living in TN when all personnel connected to federal armies were called in. Since he had to have been in AL as he married Cassie in Marengo County, AL (Jan. 1838) during the Indian removal. If you think you are related to this family or know of Capt.
