Found a local copy of The Paynes of Wabash County, Illinois and Wilson County, Tennessee by Lois Wittenbraker Payne, 1984. I have the listed names (table of contents) here at home. I am looking for information on Rachel Payne that married William Griffith. I have been trying to research Jonathan Griffith son of William Griffith, Sr. and Rachel Payne, Jonathan married Olney Parsons( Internet ) They had daughter Margaret Griffith that married George Reed. They had son Hiram Reed, Margaret than remarried and started another family with E. Altizer. Hiram Reed was my gggrandfather. According to research Rachel Payne was thought to be Cherokee, I find in a will of William Griffith,Sr. a Reubin Payne as a witness. Was Reubin Payne related to Rachel and was he the Reubin Paine in the Occaneechi- Saponi records in Pittsylvania County, Va. ? I have also find : Occaneechi - Saponi and others recorded on the Pittsylvania County, Va. 1782-1785 PAYNE, Thomas, William, Robert, Edmund , Phill PAINE , Reubin READ, James, William Jonathan Griffith and Olney Parsons were in Pittsylvania County, Va, in 1790, Franklin County, Va, 1n 1810 and 1820. William Griffith and Rachel Payne were in Pittsylvania Co., Va Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated. .
