Hello all, Guess I didn't inherit that "brilliant Payne gene".....LOL. To clarify, there is a story handed down about my gg-grandfather, Elihu Payne, son of Elijah, son of Obadiah, son of Joseph and Phoebe Payne. Obadiah and his descendants resided in Knox County, Ky. The story goes: during the war between the states, Elihu was walking down the road, and the confederate army picked him up and took him to one of their (confederate) POW camps. I have not even been able to determine if he served in the Union Army, as we don't have any Ky lists in our library and he appears on each census with a different first name. (One was Elihuph. I'm not even sure I pronoun "Elihu" correctly...LOL) Is there any reason that they would take a civilian to a POW camp? Really stumped on this one, and without the correct spelling of his name as it may be listed on the National Archive records, I would be waisting alot of time trying to send off for his documents. Does that help any? Thank you all for you responses, Bev
