    1. Biological father-Harry Andrew Payne
    2. I have been searching for my biological father, relatives, or someone who knows of them, for quite some time. Only to generate some information of that side of my family, I might add. My wishes are not to cause any harm or heartaches for anyone. If I do locate him or family members of his, and naturally mine, contact of any kind would be entirely up to them. My mother, maiden name Ruby Naoda Bishop, has very little information on him, which has made my search quite difficult. I would appreciate any information from anyone who can shine some light on this search. Here is what I know or believe to be possibly true: My father was a greyhound bus driver in and around Roanoke, Va. when my mother met him in 1945. He may have had a sister living in Roanoke at the time. He may have been from Pennsylvania. My mother says she spent about five months with him when he joined the Army and was stationed in Lawton, Okla. in the later part of 1945. When he was due to be reassigned, she returned to Christiansburg, Va. and later found out she was pregnant with me. She tells me they were married, but this may not be true. I am not sure. I was born 9-4-46 and she tells me he was in his early to mid 20's when I was born. My aunt, who lives in Roanoke, has said she believes he relocated to Florida. She has also said that she had seen an obituary for him in the Roanoke Times somewhere around the mid to late 70's. Like I said, some of this I know to be true, some of it I am not sure is true. I would appreciate any and all information I can gather in this matter. I am very much interested in determining my roots on the Payne side of my family. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me. Send replies to mepayne@msn.com or 18129 Private Stock Ln., Smithfield, VA. 23430 or 757-255-4889 or 255-4888 (usually tied up on the net) Thanks, Michael E. Payne

    3. All, I too have been lurking behind UK PAYNE's (from Worcestershire) and tend to agree with your sentiments. I'm here for genealogical research and not to be subjected to any advertising for any particular faith. I personally get really annoyed when people come to the door arguing that 'my religion is better than yours'. If only people could be more tolerant of others' beliefs, then we wouldnt have such conflicts as Northern Ireland, Iraq, etc etc I respect other people's rights to believe in whatever they want but can do without them trying to convince the rest of us in a forum which is all about family history - not religion. Having said that, I want to hear from anyone that can add to my research so a simple click on the DELETE button is all that's necessary if it's not relevant!!! So my message to Carlene is simple - join and help us all further our family history research - but keep any non-relevant advertising off this list. Regards British - and proud of the fact that we in England do not appear to be so racially and/or ethnically blinkered as you in the US!!!! If I've offended anyone, reply to my personal email and take it from there - don't subject the PAYNE list to any flame wars!!! Barry WOODS ----- Original Message ----- From: P. S. 3. Hi, Folks - Please keep SUBSCRIBE and UNSUBSCRIBE messages off the list. Remember that messages to PAYNE-L@rootsweb.com go to about 525 people, most of whom do not care about your attempts to subscribe and unsubscribe. To UNSUBSCRIBE, simply send a message to: PAYNE-L-request@rootsweb.com with nothing but the word "UNSUBSCRIBE", without the quotes, signature turned off, in the body of the message. To SUBSCRIBE, follow the same procedure, substituting the word SUBSCRIBE for UNSUBSCRIBE. Spelling must be correct in both cases. On a list this large, you may want to unsubscribe when you go on vacation, subscribing again when you return. Good luck to all! Danny Payne, List Manager

    3. Hello, list, I've been a subscriber for some months now, mainly lurking because my PAYNE/PAIN connections are in the UK. I really do take exception to the message below from this new lister, and I would ask the listowner to please advise the lister of proper netiquette. I subscribe to family history lists to do genealogical and related research. I do not use this forum to proselytise other listers, and I do not anticipate being unexpectedly proselytised in return. Believe it or not, not all listers are Christians. The sensitivities of individuals of other faiths, or of no faith, should be kept in mind by those who are sure that they have the one, true religion. Thanks. 1. Jesse
    2. Brenda D. Monroe
    3. My Jesse Payne b: 1808 SC I have no clues about who his family were. I only know he married in Shelby Co TN in 1832 to Louisa McDaniel (b: 1814 Madison Co.,KY). And they ended up in Greene Co.,AR. The McDaniel and Payne family lived in Memphis, shelby co.,TN.. In 1830 in Shelby, TN, the Paynes listed were; H.C. Pain, C.B. Pain and E. Pain. (Eppi Payne?) In 1840 in DeSoto, MS, there was a M. H. Payne, Robert Payne, Elizabeth Payne, C.B Payne, Hiram Payne, H.C. Payne, Melvin Payne, Jordan Payne. Looks to me that everyone moved from Shelby to DeSoto. Jordan Payne from above was married in Shelby, Hyram was married in Shelby, Hamilton C. was married in Shelby, Culbertson B. Payne was married in Shelby. Rural Desoto County in MS would probably necessitate getting married in Shelby (Memphis) though. There was a Robert Payne listed in DeSoto in 1840 (60-70) that was old enough to be everyone's father. ---------- Mortality Greene Co.,AR Fam # NAME AGE SEX COL BORN DIED CAUSE OF DEATH 1870 40 Payne, James W 50 m w (M) MS May Pneu I wonder who this James W Payne was, he was born in 1820 in MS, too old to be Jesse's son, too young to be Jesse's father, maybe a brother or nephew?? E. Pain in 1830 (had no wife but looked as if lived with brothers and sisters--two boys 10-15, two girls 5-10) could have been "Eppi". E. Pain was listed on page 16 along with C.B. Pain (E. & CB same ages 20-30). H. C. Pain was listed on page 14 and was 10 to 20 years older. This E. Pain was not in DeSoto, MS in 1840. James W. Payne might have been one of the 10-15 year old boys living in the household. Who moved to Greene Co.,AR w/Jesse??? So I know Jessie was in SC, TN, Ms, and AR for sure; In 1850 Louisa McDaniel Payne and Jesse Payne were living in St. Francis Township of Greene County. At this time their children were: Frances, 1833; Harriet, 1836; Mary Jane, 1838; Susanna, 1839; Milton, 1842; Eliza, 1843;John, 1846; James C., 1848; and Emily, 1850. Frances, the oldest child, was born in Tennessee. Harriet, Mary Jane,Susanna, and Milton were born in Mississippi. Eliza, John, James C., and Emily were born in Arkansas. Jesse Eppi PAYNE b:1807-8 in SC, married Louisa McDANIEL, BORN 1814 KY, They wed in SHELBY COUNTY, TN 25 FEB 1832. Children, * Francis M.
