I have been searching for the will of Joel Ball who married Elizabeth Jarvis. When Joel died, Elizabeth married Moses Freeman. The will was on a Jarvis and related families site that belonged to Ed Slane. The site was on AOL. I tried to go to the site -- a notice came up stating that it no longer existed on AOL Hometown. I then tried to email Ed Slane and got a message that he was no longer on AOL. Does anyone have any idea if this website was moved to another location? Or a new address for ED SLANE? Thanks for your help. Linda Ball Researching: Anderson * Ball * Kent * Payne Western NC

Hi, I have some information on Henry Payne, as follows; Born 1760, North Carolina, married December 17, 1795, Orange County, North Carolina, to Rachel Thompson, born 1776 in North Carolina, daughter of James Thompson. Children; 1, Mary F. Payne born about 1796, North Carolina 2. Joseph Payne, born 1798, North Carolina 3. James Payne, Born 1795-1800, North Carolina 4. John Payne born 1795-`1800 Orange County, North Carolina 5. Elizabeth Payne Born about 1809 in Tennessee 6. Jenny Payne, born 100-1810, Tennessee 7. Andrew Payne, Born 1813, Tennessee 8. Abigail Payne, born 1820, Tennessee Unfortunately, I do not hve his parent's names, but I would suspect that his father may have been a Joseph Payne, since they named the first son this, and another James, which would have been after Rachel's father. Was there a Joseph in Orange County? You may have already had this information, but thought I would pass it on. Cissie Payne

Hi List, Hope to make contact with others tracing the PAYNE surename in and around Hamilton County, Ohio (Cincinati area) I recently learned that my g-grandmother, Martha Ellen PAYNE b, abt 1852, parents were, Thomas L. PAYNE and Ellen REESE and were living at or near Elizabethtown, Whitewater Twp. Hamilton Co., Ohio around 1850-1870. Does anyone have any links to this family? Thanks in advance. Mickey Jones Louisville, KY
Call the National Archives in DC directly. There is no single repository of Confederate governmental records, but, as you can guess, the Federal government wound up with a lot of stuff. This is the kind of question that the main branch of NARA probably answers all the time. There are Confderate records on microfilm now available at all bracnhes so there are staffers, or as they call them "technicians", who know all about them. This includes what's NOT available. So go directly to the source. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
Hello all, Guess I didn't inherit that "brilliant Payne gene".....LOL. To clarify, there is a story handed down about my gg-grandfather, Elihu Payne, son of Elijah, son of Obadiah, son of Joseph and Phoebe Payne. Obadiah and his descendants resided in Knox County, Ky. The story goes: during the war between the states, Elihu was walking down the road, and the confederate army picked him up and took him to one of their (confederate) POW camps. I have not even been able to determine if he served in the Union Army, as we don't have any Ky lists in our library and he appears on each census with a different first name. (One was Elihuph. I'm not even sure I pronoun "Elihu" correctly...LOL) Is there any reason that they would take a civilian to a POW camp? Really stumped on this one, and without the correct spelling of his name as it may be listed on the National Archive records, I would be waisting alot of time trying to send off for his documents. Does that help any? Thank you all for you responses, Bev
