Carlene and Carolyn, I have a very large list of Franklin Co. GA Paynes on my website below. I can't seem to find your family but I am almost sure they came from these lines because I see Ace and Epp Paynes in my file. I am not sure of all the names in my file because I haven't proved them. I got lots from other researchers that are working on their lines. BTW, have you checked the Census for their names yet? Let me know if anything helps. From: ecarlene@webtv.net (Carlene P. I do family research on the Payne family identified in the book, "The Paynes of Virginia," by Col. Boothe, e.g., the John Payne (b 1615 in England) family. One of my ancestors' brothers got into a fight with George Washington in 1755 in Alexandria, VA and became a close friend of Washington's and Commissary General of the Continental Army. There is a new book, "The Fabulous History of the Dismal Swamp Company: A Story of George Washington's Times" by Charles Royster, Knopf 1999. I would like to know if any Paynes have read this book and if it contains any mention of Paynes. Donn Blanchard Parker donnlorna@aol.com
Could SKS look up Joseph PAYNE living in Barnsley,YKS; Great Addington, NTH; or Nottingham, Nothingham, in either/both the 1871 and the 1861 Census. I am reasonably certain that I have found my great-great-grand-uncle Joseph PAYNE [bpt 7 Nov 1813 Great Addington, NTH, ENG] s/o Joseph PAYNE/PAINE and his second wife Jane ROWE living in Barnsley, YKS, ENG in 1881. The 1881 census also gives a John PAYNE and family living at 132 Dodworth Rd. I am particularly interested if Joseph has a son John PAYNE b 1846 living with him as that could provide a link between these two families. Hi List, One of my grandmothers (paternal) is Mollye Elizabeth PAYNE. She was born 07 May 1900 in Warrenton, Fauquier County, VA. She married Lucien (also spelled Lucian) Walker BOWEN, Sr. 30 aug 1918 in Washington, DC. She died as Mollye Redmond (her 2nd husband) in DC in June 1968. Her parents are Henry Franklin PAYNE and Susan Anna PAYNE (3rd cousins). my mother remembers that Henry and Susan were farm managers, but not sure if they were on a farm near Warrenton or Culpeper. My dad spent large parts of his summers there on the farm as a boy. Henry Franklin PAYNE's father is John Clinton PAYNE and his mother is Minerva KEARNS. John is cited in the book the "Payne's of Virginia" (Reference: C-VII-100). Susan's parents are Robert Gordon PAYNE (He went by "Gordon") and Mary Lewis HOLTZCLAW (a Germanna descendant, I am fairly certain, but I have no info on her parents!) and Robert's mother is also a HOLTZCLAW; Elizabeth HOLTZCLAW . Does anyone have information about Capt. John Payne b. 1807 NC d. 1880 MS? He was in the AL militia during the Indian removal. He first married Cassie Marcy in Marengo County, AL in Jan. 1838, Cassie died between 1865 and 1866 and John re-married Caroline Cagle in Dec. 1866. He had about 17 children. Capt. John and Cassie are buried in the Payne Family Cemetery along with several of their children. If anyone has information on these families please contact me. Sandra
I have all information on Susan Ann Payne, daughter of Henry Payne, married Wiley Payne, and 2nd husband A. Wayne McKinney. She was my husbands grandmother. She and Wiley Payne helped to establish Medicine Lodge, Kansas. She had a very colorful life and was even shot by an Indian arrow.
Looking for any information on Capt. John Payne, b.1807 NC, d. 1880 Lee County, MS, buried in the Payne Family Cemetery. Seems to have served in the AL militia during the Indian removal, not in the Civil War. He was married twice, first to Cassie Marcy in 1838 AL, then Caroline Cagle in 1866 in MS. He was living in MS by 1842 in Itawamba County. He had 18 children. If you are connected to this family or know anything about his military career I would like to exchange information with you. S. Knight
Hi Everyone, I'm new to the list and thought I'd post my interests. I am interested in any PAYNE families in and around Uxbridge, England. I have done some research, here is a brief outline of a portion of it, Charles George PAYNE married Mary Ann BURROWS in Uxbridge, England, possibly in 1895. He died before 1925. He may have had a wife previous to Mary Ann BURROWS, and possibly a daughter as a result of this previous marriage, known as Evy (short for Evelyn?) or Edie (short for Edith?) His children with Mary Ann BURROWS were, Charles Baden PAYNE born April 30 1900 in Uxbridge married Eileen Emmeline HOOPER 1925, Uxbridge. Fred PAYNE Lil (short for Lillian?) PAYNE There may have been other children. Anyone interested? Let me know - I have more info. Deborah Laing deborah.laing@talk21.com
Hi I am searching for any information on Payne's from Oxford County. Edward/Edwin and Mary Payne came from England to Ontario in the mid 1800's. With them were three sons, William, James and Edward/Edwin. John, George and Mary were born in Ontario. John married Margaret (Maggie) McLellan. Lived in the Thamesford area and then on Charles St. East, Ingersoll George married Hannah --------? Lived on Merritt St., Ingersoll Mary married -----? Houghton. Lived in Thamesford then Toronto. She is buried in Ski Hi Road near Thamesford. Edward/Edwin went to the USA. He had a son Jim who had a son Howard. I don't know what became of William or James and I have most of Johns' descendants. If anyone out there has any information on these people it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Cecelia Payne
The 1881 census also gives a John PAYNE and family living at 132 Dodworth Rd! Does anyone else have any of these PAYNE families in their tree?
