    1. John Payne 1815 VA, TN, MO
    2. Dear Fellow Payne Researchers: I am trying to find information on my 3rd great grandfather John Messer Payne. He was born in VA in 1815. He had 2 sons who were both born in TN, James S. (b. 1835) and Daniel (b. 1839) I do not know the name of there Mother. I believe John remarried sometime in the late 1840s, and ended up in Pulaski Co... MO. The name of his 2nd wife was Louisa S. Dodd, Daughter of James Dodd and Milla Walker. She was born in TN in 1826, and was first married to John Lanning. Louisa and John ended up having several more children together, including my 2nd great grandfather Jeremiah Payne. Any information on this line would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Beth Calnon becalnon@aol.com

    1. Silas Payne - Roanoke, Virginia
    2. Hi Listers, I am looking for parents/siblings of Silas Payne, b. abt. 1821, Va. and married to Mary Saunders, b. abt. 1826 and married on 24 Jan 1847. Last official record had them listed in 1850 Census, Roanoke Co., Va. under the name Paine. While his children were listed in the 1860 Census, Franklin Co., VA--Silas and Mary Payne seemed to have disappeared. It is possible that he was killed in the Civil War. I would like to hear from anyone who might have ancestor information on my Silas Payne, my 2nd great grandfather. Additional information: Silas and Mary Payne had two children: George R. Payne b. abt. 1848 and William A. Payne, b. abt. 1849.  William A. Payne married Mary Margaret Steele, b. about 1847 and married on 6 Feb 1868.  Mary and William Payne had seven children:  Alonzo, Erastus, Lucian, Loma, Denton, Grover Cleveland and Alma.  All resided in the Roanoke/Franklin Co. area (possibly Cave Springs District and Boones Mill). Silas Payne served as surety for at least five Payne marriages to include:  Peggy, Nancy, Richard Payne (all children of Isham Payne)  Also, the marriage of Chenesse Payne (father Joseph) and Jubal Payne.  It is believed that Silas is related to some of these persons. Regards, Virginia Payne

    1. Amos Payne
    2. Shane
    3. Greetings! I am looking for information on an Amos Payne who emigrated to Canada from Bristol, England, in 1930. He was aged 18. He was headed for the Vimy Ridge Hostel in Guelph, Ontario. I can't check marriage records for the 1930s in Ontario as they aren't released yet. There is a cemetery listing for an Amos Payne in Stewart Cemetery, Tilbury East in Kent County but the information is inconclusive. It may have been a very old grave and the dates of birth and death hard to read. Still, it is a possibility. Any information would be appreciated. Shane London

    1. Re: Annie
    2. Ann Everingham
    3. Annie Payne was born in 1850 in Illinois. In 1870 she was living with her Mother Angeline Payne in Long Bar/Marysville, Yuba Co., California. She married John L (Louis/Lewis) "Polk" Simmons circa 1873. Annie had 2 daughters - Lottie B. Olive Simmons. Annie died in 1881 and is buried in the Yuba City Cemetery, Sutter Co., CA. From the 1870 Census we learn that Annie was born in Illinois and her Mother was born in Missouri. From the 1910 Census We learn that Angeline Payne was born in Missouri, her Father in New York, and her Mother in Illinois. I have been unable to locate any information on Angeline (maiden name unknown) Payne's husband and Father of Annie. Also, I have been unable to locate any further information on John L. Simmons. John L. Simmons was born circa 1839 and died from a fall in 1904. He is also buried in Yuba City Cemetery. John and Annie are buried with the Galbraith Family. Angeline Payne. born 1816, died 1912, is buried in the Sutter City Cemetery, Sutter Co., CA. She is buried with the Tharp family. Does anyone have any ideas on my Payne (pain) family? 1. Kershaw/Camden, SC Paynes
    2. Stephen Payne
    3. Last week I spent two full days at the Alderman Library at the Univ. of Virginia in Charlottesville scanning the 22 boxes of material in the Col. Brooke Payne collection (mss. #920). I was hoping to find a link between the many VA Payne families that Col. Payne was studying and a group of Paynes that started settling in the Kershaw/ Camden around 1750. Many of these Paynes in the Kershaw/Camden area relocated to Wilkinson and Laurens Counties in GA or to parts of AL shortly after 1800. Unfortunately, among the thousands and thousands of documents in that collection that I scanned, I couldn't find any links between the fairly well established VA Payne families and those 1750-1800 Paynes in Kershaw/Camden, SC. Due to Col. Payne's intensive focus on VA counties and records in that state, the boxes of documents don't often mention relocations of these Payne families to other states. When there are references to such moves, these seemed to be to Kentucky, Tennessee, and a few to North Carolina counties. I wonder if anyone on this list has been able to trace these Kershaw/ Camden, SC Paynes back a generation or so to their roots in VA, MD, or otherwise. I do know that some of the Paynes in the Greenville, SC area derive from earlier MD families, but I would appreciate any guidance about earlier ancestors of the Kershaw/Camden, SC Paynes. Among the individuals in that area are the early settlers (and probably their sons) of Camden or Frederickborough, SC: William, Phillip, several Josephs, several Georges, several Johns, Daniel, Benjamin, Samuel, Elisha, and James Payne. I know a few others have also been examining these early Kershaw/Camden, SC Paynes and perhaps someone can help several of us with some info. Thanks. --- Steve Payne

    1. PAYNE, Reuben (circa 1762-?) in Connecticut
    2. Richard H. Norwood
    3. Hello I am searching for the ancestry of Reuben Payne-husband of Elizabeth HAMLIN (b. 30 Jan 1763) and father of Job Hamlin PAYNE (1790-1856). As far as I know the PAYNES were long time residents of Portland, CT, also known as East Middletown and Chatham. I suspect Reuban is descended from a John PAYNE, a son of either a Job or John PAYNE who settled in the area in the late 1600s--but I haven't been able to make a real connection. Have looked in IGI, Middlesex-L list, Genweb etc. Does anyone know about this line of PAYNEs? Thanks! Rick Norwood rtfact@hughes.net

    1. Bernard & Russell Payne, VA
    2. Lori Craiger
    3. It has been a while since I last posted. I thought I would try again with some new information I've received from a SS-5 application I received. I am looking for more information on my paternal grandfather and his ancestors. His name was Russell Bernard Payne, b. 03/01/1911, Loudoun Co., VA, d. 09/17/1963, Centreville, VA. His father's name was Bernard Forrest Payne, b. 12/28/1889, Fauquier Co., VA. His mother's name was either Bertie or Beatrice and I don't know her maiden name. His siblings were: William, Susie Payne Shutts, Pauline Payne Shutts, Mabel Payne Tapp-Beach, Ada Payne Carbaugh, Helen Payne Buttery, Hazel Payne Cole, Irene Payne Bridge, and Ettie "Ducky" Payne Owens-Fox. I know all of his sisters' married names because I have a copy of his obituary which lists them. The SS-5 application I received is for Bernard Forrest Payne. The date for the application was 2/10/1939. His address at that time was Purcellville, VA and he worked at Gill Brothers in Leesville (?Leesburg?), VA. He lists his parents as Bernard Payne and Sarah Catherine Payne. Up the side of the application it is written "mother was a Miss Payne before marriage". And that's as far as I've been able to get. If anyone has any information on this line of Payne's I would greatly appreciate it if you would contact me either through this list or at my email uni62corn@hotmail.com. 1. 1600's Augustine WARNER, I/II/READE/MARTIAU/TOWNELEY
    2. Hello, I am sending this to several of the lists that connect to the following information: Does anyone know if the lineage of the Augustine's WARNER, I and II and/or MIldred READE or Margaret TOWNELEY happen to connect in the early 1600's in Virginia, probably Rappahannock Co. or ?, with the families of WILLOUGHBY, JENNINGS, PAYNE, ROBINSON or EDRINGTON? I don't know that there is a definite connection but suspect that there might be but my 7th great grandparents, Mary WILLOUGHBY, born: abt. 1670 in ?, (parents: ??,) and William JENNINGS, Sr., born: abt. 1668 in Sittenburne Parish, Rappahannock Co., VA, lived later in Richmond Co., VA, and I descend through their son, William JENNINGS, Jr., born: bet. 1695-1700 prob. in Rappahannock Co., VA, died: 1733 in Richmond Co., VA, who had a brother named Augustine JENNINGS, born: abt. 1708 either in Rappahannock or Richmond Co., VA, who married Hannah WILLIAMS whose WILLIAMS family may connect to the WILLIAMS - BALL - WASHINGTON - WARNER families but not sure. I descend from two of the WILLIAMS lines in early 1600's VA as well...the BILLINGTON - WILLIAMS and PEMBERTON - WILLIAMS lines that later in the JENNINGS family tree married into the EARLE - WILLIAMS - HOLBROOK - SORRELL - BENNETT - HALE - ALLERTON - SYMONS/SYMONDS - PARKER - HOWELL - MERIWETHER - LEWIS - ELLZEY/ELLSEY, COLLINS, BRIGHT, MYRICK, HERRINGTON, GRANTHAM, STUCKEY, HOWELL # 2, DICKSON/DICKERSON, PROCTOR? etc. families. I am very interested in communicating with anyone who might have any clues as to the possibility of where the name for Augustine JENNINGS might come into his family. Thanks. Sincerely, Bellinda Myrick - Barnett
