    1. Emaline Payne
    2. Micheal & Becky Myers - Adelphia
    3. Hi Everyone! I'm new to this group and hope that someone might have information to help me get through my brick wall. My ggggrandmother's name was Emaline Payne who was married to a John Whitney. They had three children that I am aware of. Bernice Lawrence Whitney (my gggrandfather) born in 1866 in Buffalo, NY., Charles Mentle Whitney and Mary Whitney. I got this information from Bernice's death certificate. I assume that Emaline was born around 1846 and I believe she was either born in Pennsylvania or NY. The 1900 census I found for Bernice said his mother was born in NY but his death certificate says she was born in PA. I know I am grasping at straws with no further information, I'm just hoping that someone connects with the Whitneys that may be able to help me. Becky Myers --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. 3. So true Norm [and good to see your words again]. Norm and I have collaborated on numerous pieces of the Payne family through the years. I've spent countless hours in courthouses, cemeteries, interviewing elder relatives who were still with us etc. It's important to get your information from first hand "digging" and verify it through collaboration with others who have done the same to be truly sure. Take care Julie Payne Rush ----- Original Message ----- From: Norm and Linda Payne To: PAYNE-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, April 20, 2002 7:01 PM Subject: Re: Flayle Payne I see no conflict in the record of Flayle Payne. If you want the real facts put your computer aside and go out digging for the records. I spent 12 years putting together my Payne family book by traveling to courthouses, cemeteries and libraries. I never one time used a fact from the internet. Much of what I have seen by "computer genealogist" is just not true. Norm

    3. To Payne Folks, I just stumbled onto the page describing the location and proper name of the cemetery that I have taken pictures of. It is the Payne-Wirt Cemetery at Cedar Hill, located in Leedstown, Virginia. Carl F. Flemer, jr, abstracted the information and it is located on web page: http://users.erols.com/ndesign/payne.html This page is found on Danny Payne’s “The Paynes of Virginia” home page. Jim Miller To all Payne folks, The cemetery is in Virginia on the Ingleside winery property. They keep it manicured. It is not far from George Washington’s childhood home. The plaque is on the wall to the right of the bush at the end of the cemetery. I only included the ones that were clearly read. I am going back and hopefully will get them all, in different light so they are legible.; Jim

    3. Hello Everyone, It seems that some folks out there liked the idea of a volunteer project to index Brooke's Collection at UVA and have written me to acknowledge their interest. Although I had not intended to organize such a project (just made the suggestion that it might be possible), I was curious to know how the Library would respond to such a request. So I wrote to the Director of the Special Collections Department. His response is attached below. It looks like nothing could be done until the new Special Collections Library is finished in 2004. After that, however, it appears that they might be open to such a project. Regards, Patrick Payne >Dear Mr. Payne, > > Thank you for your email concerning the Brooke Payne Collection.
