The Rock Hall resident was 83. Mr. Paxton was born in Baltimore and raised on South Linwood Avenue. He was a 1938 graduate of Patterson High School and joined the utility in 1940. During his 43-year tenure at the company, he studied chemistry at the Johns Hopkins University and Princeton University. He retired in 1973. Mr. Paxton, who formerly lived in the city's Gardenville neighborhood, spent summers for years at Rock Hall, where he moved permanently in 1998. A Mason, he was a member of Lodge 43 of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Doric Lodge and the Scottish Rite. Mr. Paxton enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and bird-watching. "He was also a great cook and oyster shucker," said his son William P. Paxton of Rock Hall. Mr. Paxton was married for 25 years to the former Dorothy Virginia Adkins, who died in 1970. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at Rock Hall United Methodist Church in Rock Hall. Survivors include another son, Gary E. Paxton of Bel Air; a brother, Windsor Paxton of Aberdeen; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
