Hi Tamara, I checked the Census for Nebraska 1885. I came up with James Paxton age 10, borne in Maine. Another James P. Paxton age 35, born in Missouri, living in Greeley. And a James Paxton age 36 born in Kentucky living in Richardson, Nebraska. No James Paxton born in 1860. Where was your James Paxton born and what leads you to think he might be in Nebraska at this time? I did a little more checking and there is a J. S. Paxton on the 1885 Census living in theVillage of Valentine, Cherry, Nebraska- age 20 born in Missouri. There is no actual image of the Census available online to view so I'm unable to see if he was married and had any children. I believe he was in Nebraska, because his Son Chauncey was said to be born in Nebraska in 1885, however, it is possible that he was born in Vermillion county Indiana or Vermillion County Illinois too. I do know his son Guy WAS born in Hebron Nebraska in 1887. That was way before they kept birth records though, so I don't know how to find a mothers name there. This is one of my Brick wall ancestors I guess! Tamara, I checked for Paxton's in Hebron (Thayer County) Nebraska on the 1900 Census since you said one of the children were born in 1885 Hebron. Unfortunately I came up with nothing. But at least now you know that and sometimes the process of elimination can be helpful.
