H. PAXTON, 83 Services will be held tomorrow in Florence for long-time Westcliffe resident Rutherford H. Paxton Jr. He died Monday, April 9, 1990 at a Canon City care center the day before his 84th birthday. Mr. Paxton was born in Florence on April 10, 1906. Mr. Paxton was a self-employed truck driver. He moved from the Fremont County coal camp of Chandler to Westcliffe about 57 years ago, and lived here until moving to Canon City in the early 1980's. He preferred the Episcopal faith. He married Ruby B. Daughtery in Chandler in 1927. For many years, she served as librarian at the Custer County Library. She preceded him in death in October 1983. Mr. Paxton was also preceded in death by three brothers. He is survived by a daughter and four sons: Betty Koch of Westcliffe; Rupert Paxton of Cheyenne, Wyo.; Robert Paxton of Reno, Nev.; Charence [Clarence??] Paxton of Penrose; and Tom Paxton of Canon City. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Committal serv! ices will be held tomorrow, Friday, April 13, at 2 p.m. at Union Highland Cemetery near Florence, with Father W. Morris Cafky officiating. Cremation was handled by Almont Crematory.
