What sort of information is available there? Original documents? Genealogy reports submitted by researchers? And when did they start charging a fee? As far as I know, there is no fee. The only fee associated with any of the LDS family history centers is to print anything, this is a 10 cent per page fee, to cover the cost of paper and toner. Other than that, the service is absolutely free. I spend a good amount of time there, I am just so far away and unable to get there lately. Tamara, I'm going to make my first visit to the LDS history center in Mesa, AZ soon. Any advice for me to make my visit pay as fruitful as possible? What info should I have with me? Joanne, I visit the Mesa library all the time, I live here in Casa Grande. The most important thing to bring with you is a pedigree chart filled out as much as possible with the names of the people you are researching. Also, there are several missionaries whos only purpose in the center is to help you with whatever they can find. When you walk in the door, there will be a person waiting to assist you, and they can guide you to the place that will start your search the fastest. Also, you are free to roam, or have someone help you. There is an extensive library, and the cool thing is, if they don't have it there, they can order from Salt lake, or whatever, and you pay shipping. I am not quite the expert at that library, but there are so many willing to help, that I don't feel so bad going there. Take as much as you can with what you already know, names and places, etc. Someone there will help you with the rest. :) Sorry if this didn't make too much sense. I have been out all day, and am a bit tired. Many thanks, Tamara. I live in Queen Valley (hence the "qv"), which is probably less thana 45 min drive from the LDS library. Don't know why I haven't gone sooner... There is no fee for useing their librarys; but if you log <on line>>the internet> to Ancestory.com; then my local charges $1.00 an hr; but no charge for what you print off....BUT YOU CAN ACCESS THE SUBSCRIPTION PART OF ANCESTORY;<cheaper than me suscribing<<<If you copy things at their librarys, there is a fee, depending on what machine is used. And you can rent film or buy microfich. Each local has different books; depending on whats been donated or purchased by that local Stake... They also have a surname Index>microfich>>> that goes from the1600s to 1850 that is not on line; of which I have made great use of.... YOU CAN SEARCH THEIR LIBRARY CATALOG from your home computer; at website; http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library/fhlc/frameset_fhlc.asp.
