She was born February 2, 1919, in Henderson, NC and was the daughter of George Chamness Davidson and Margaret Poe Davidson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Glenn Paxton and her two daughters, Julia Kay Paxton and Patsy Paxton Mulder. Her sons, Roger Davidson Paxton, and his wife, Nancy, of Norman, NC, and Thomas Todd Paxton of Castle Hayne, NC, and her 'special' girls, Carol and Janice Fladd of Wilmington, survive her. Ruth graduated Greensboro College and UNC-CH and taught public school in Matthews, NC and New Hanover County for 34 years. Ruth was a member of the Blockade Runner Chapter of the UDC, The Mall Walking Club, N.C. Siroccos, New Hanover Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, the Wilmington Chapter of Compassionate Friends, NC Retired Teachers Association, and was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church. A Service of Celebration and Life will be held at Grace United Methodist Church, Sunday at 3:00 PM with the Reverend Bob Bauman, presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice, or the Grace UMC Mission Fund, 401 Grace Street, Wilmington, NC 28401. Bryan Funeral Service of Swan Quarter, NC, is assisting the family of Mrs. Paxton.
