    3. Hello Margaret, I was wondering about your post concerning William and Ruth Paxton. You said they had up to 8 children and you mentioned a JOHN Paxton. Do you know where this John fits in in the pecking order of the family? I am researching a John Paxton born in 1825 supposedly in West VIrginia, but I know there are parts of West Virginia close to Frederick Maryland and so I was just wondering. When was your John Paxton of William and Ruth born and do you know anything else about him? If he is not my John Paxton, maybe you can help me eliminate him from further study. Jan MRCACG@aol.com wrote: The Paxton family of my interest is that of William Paxton who wed Ruth Sellman in July 1802 in Frederick County, MD. Ruth's pedigree traces back to a Jamestown ancestor. But I have no idea where William came from to Frederick, MD The couple eventually moved to the Tenleytown are of Washington, DC. That is located just inside the district line. In the old census' it is referred to as Washington County, DC. They could have had at least eight children that can be identified. One daughter Althea married Elexious Queen. Another married Jonathan Buckman, another James H. Flower, another married Robert Devine. There is also one who married first a Wolford and second a Chappel. Their sons were John, James, Joseph and Thomas. William is shown on the 1840 census living next door to Elias King. Elias' daughter married Joseph Paxton. In 1850 Ruth was listed as head of household, but there is a notation she had recently died. There is some confusion over this record because Birch funeral home has a Mrs. Paxton dying several months after that. Perhaps this record was for the child Florida Paxton who seems to move from household to house hold as the years passed. Living in the household that same day was a Queen grandson who may have been on a "sleep over" but also counted in his parents household; a girl Florida Paxton; a daughter and her family, husband Robert Devine; and an Ann Selman who was either Ruth's unmarried sister or sister-in-law. In 1860 Ann Selman age 80 was living in the Jonathan Buckman home. And in 1870, there was a boarder in the Robert Devine household named Althea Pedicord which was the name of Ruth (Sellman) Paxton's mother. She had to be a cousin but what degree has not yet been determined. I found one record in the Frederick Co. land records for a Thomas Paxton of York Co. PA who bought 2 town lots in Taneystown. Any clue that might help me extend the line back is appreciated.
