Tina, I have some good news and bad news...I found your Joseph R. Paxton on the 1930 census, but he was unmarried at that time. He was residing in La Plata County, Colorado with a Carl C. Stillrich listed as a "lodger". It shows his age as 34 and being born in South Dakota. According to the filmography of Dick Paxton, I believe his first movie was in 1938 or 1939. This would make it highly unlikely he was the son of this Joseph unless Dick was very young when he made his first movie.
