Paxton 1909 ~ 2004 Edith Nelda Tomkinson Paxton, 94, passed away May 4, 2004 in Sandy. Nelda was born August 29, 1909 in Fillmore, UT to Willie Douglas and Mary Edith Bennett Tomkinson. She married Mark Paxton, noted statesman and successful businessman, on August 30, 1930. Mark passed away March 14, 1982. Nelda attended school in Fillmore. She was active in many civic and church organizations. She served as President of the Millard High School Band Mothers Club, President of the Millard Co. Ladies Republican Organization, V.P. of the Fillmore Garden Club, active in the Fine Arts Guild, member of the Delta, Delta, Delta Sorority Mothers Club, organist for Relief Society, Singing Mothers, and MIA, Relief Society. and Primary teacher and a member of the Civic Chorus. Nelda was very creative as a seamstress, piecing and making quilts for her posterity. She loved to embroider, tat, crochet, knit and play bridge. Mark raised a beautiful garden and Nelda harvested it ! for her family. She was known for her thriftiness. She is survived by her daughters: Theone (Kent B.) Vincent, Rene' Huntington, Paula (Wendell) Memmott, nine grandchildren (all college graduates), 17 great-grandchildren and two sisters-in-law, Mildred Tomkinson and Helen V. Tomkinson. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, son-in-law Jack Huntington, great grandson Ryan Huntington, three sisters, Helen (Carl) Warner, Mildred and Millie (infant twins) and two brothers, Dale and Bill. The family would like to thank the staff and residents at the Legacy Retirement Home and the Wentworth at Willowcreek for the love and concern they have given to their mother. A funeral will be held Monday, May 10, 2004 at 11 a.m., at Olpin Southern Utah Mortuary (55 West 200 South, Fillmore, UT). The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral.
