"No. 148, Nathaniel Paxton. Son of John Paxton, No. 146, was born in York Co., Pa., Feb. 4, 1769, d in Wayne Co., Ohio, Oct. 6, 1849 = Oct. 25, 1796, Isabella McFarland, b. in County Tyrone, Ireland, Feb. 11, 1774, came to America at the age of fifteen, and d in Wayne Co., O, May 16, 1848. They removed from York County to Washington County prior to 1800. The family record names the wife, Isabella Menoch; but tradition asserts that the family, in Ireland, to avoid persecution and confiscation, for their Calvinistic faith, assumed the name of Menoch. Nathaniel is supposed to have lived in Cross Creek Towhship, some ten miles West of Cannonsburg; and all of his children were born there, except the youngest." There is a bit more on Nathaniel. Children: John, Nathaniel, Hugh, James, Ann, and William. FATHER of Nathaniel: "John Paxton, (No. 146.) born in York Co., Pa. about 1742, his mother's name is unknown. John died in Washington Co., PA. in 1807." FATHER of John Paxton . page. 316 Samuel Paxton, Jr.,(# 144) "supposed to have been born in Ireland, 1705, came to America in 1725 or 30 and settled on Marsh Creek, in Cumberland Township," York Co.----now part of Adams Co., PA. First wife: name unknown Second wife: Rachel. He had a Will. Tradition has it he had 22 children. His Will lists 18 living then he died. died in 1793. FATHER of Samuel Paxton. Samuel Paxton, (# 2) b. in Ireland 1670 d. in Cumberland Township, in present Co. of Adams, PA. about 1746 FATHER of Samuel Paxton James Paxton (#1) The book is: "The Paxtons: Their origin in Scotland and their migrations through England and Ireland, to the Colony of PA., whence they moved South and West, and found homes in many states and territories." by W.M. Paxton, 1903 You can get a copy from Higginson Book Co. in Salem, MA. They are on-line. I bought my copy from them. The book has a wealth of information.
