Here is what I have on the ancestry of J.C. Penney. James Cash Penney II was the son James Cash Penney I and Mary Francis Paxton (1842-1913). Mary's father was Col. Richard Head Paxton (1808-1878) and her mother was Mildred Burrus (1812-1885). Richard's father, and most likely the original land owner of the Paxton Plantation you are referring to, was James Paxton (1769-1833). Richard's mother was Nancy Biggerhead (or Head). Some people have Andrew Paxton (born about 1711) as James' father although from what I have seen the dates don't match up well with any of the Andrew Paxton's I'm familiar with. Well, that should get you started. If you find out any information on the Paxtons I'd be interested in hearing from you. Take care, J. Daniel Paxton
Hello: I have a rather large data base on the Paxtons of Green County, Kentucky. These Paxtons (Hugh Paxton)came from Rockbridge County, VA and settled in the Adair, Green, Taylor county areas.
