Could your ancestors James McGrouther and Elizabeth McLaren who married in Edinburgh on 17 March 1839 be the same couple who married on 10 March 1839 at St Ninians, Stirling under the names of John (sic) McGrowther and Elizabeth McLaren? If so, James/John was resident in Stirling, Elizabeth in Edinburgh. Hope this helps, Don
