Freda, did you see the information I posted in reply to Paul? Do you recognize any of the names? on 8/6/04 5:56 PM, Freda Waters at fwaters@madisoncounty.net wrote: > I am a Paxton in Arkansas. I missed the names that you sent to Paul. I didn't see any in this post either. If you would email them to me, I will tell you if any or familiar and I will also ask my dad and uncle (they live in the northeastern and are from that area) if they are familiar with them. My dad and uncle are the last members of their family still alive. They were the only two children in their family and are in their mid to late eighties. I don't know any of the Paxton's in this area, but I have several friends who grew up in the Berryville area and one in particular who is herself kin to lots of people and whose family is from this area. She or some of her family may know of some of your kinfolks. I guess what I am saying is that I would be glad to help in any way that I can. -----Original Message----- From: Tina Paxton [mailto:Frecs@atmc.net] Sent: Friday, August 06, 2004 10:13 PM To: PAXTON-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [PAXTON-L] PAXTON in Berryville Arkansas Freda, did you see the information I posted in reply to Paul? Paxton (born 5 May 1861 in Whitby Ontario Canada to parents William and Charlotte (Churchill) Paxton both born Ontario Canada) and his wife Ruby L Herman (born Jan 1869 Iowa to parents William and Adeline Herman originally of PA) married in 1885 in Lyon County, Iowa homesteaded in South Dakota (1892 to 1901), moved to Aspen, Colorado (1901) their youngest son (my grandfather) was born 1910 in Aspen. Children born to them in SD: Elsie Rebecca, John Dryden, George Livius, Joseph Rutheford, Rachel. I just became aware of their living in Berryville, Arkansas through a letter sent by Ruby to Frank July 8, 1928 from Berryville. I also received a copy of an article written by Frank and published in The North Arkansas Star on August 6, 1928 describing the Rocky Mountains around Estes Park, Colorado (where he is working at a golf and country club) to the readers of The Star. In the letter he says he is sending the letter because he "used to enjoy reading the Star" which suggests he had lived there for some time before returning to Colorado. I have them on the 1910 Colorado census and on the 1930 census in Orange County, California. Can't seem to find them in 1920 census anywhere. I know that the move to California was to assist Livius's parents with their orange orchards but I'm not sure what brought them to Berryville, Arkansas. I'm wondering if they had family there that preceeded them???? Oh, in that letter from Ruby to Frank, she mentions several neighbors...someone named Davis, a Mr. Dickson, and a George Prisitt and someone named Kenneth whom apparently Frank had started to make a frame and his dad, Livius, had to finish it. She tells of a situation with someone's dogs attacking her goats (I think) and Livius putting poison in a carcass but the part where she gives the name of the neighbor who owned the dogs is illegible. Any information you and your family might be able to provide would be greatly appreciated. I love stories about my ancestors as much as dates because those help me really understand them which is why I got into this research business to begin with. Thanks again!
