Hi Jean, I have copies of the book published in 1903 by Wm. M. paxton in Missouri and as best I can ascertain most of it is accurate. However, he gives no documentary proof of his thesis and I have been unable to find any for the earliest members who came to Pa.and then to Rockbridge/Augusta counties in Va. Among the officers of Cromwell's army, there is no Paxton and the statement that the headsman of Charles I is definitely erronous as it is well documented he was a Brandon. I would love to know if the first Paxton in this country was actually named Samuel. Do you haveeeeee this? Also,is Frank's book merely a reprint of the earlier book? No one told me he had died or the book had gone to press, so I'm sure they did not include me among the orders. Just hope you can get it for me. I have most of the early Va. history and when in Lexington visit the family graveyard where both John Paxton and Mary Blair are buried. The cemetery is mantained by Matthew W. Paxton III who lives in Lexington. They are a lovely family. What I have not been able to learn is anything about Elizabeth Stuarrt whom William paxton married. I know she was a sister to Col. Alexander Stuart, aunt to JEB Stuart and little else about the family. Also I don't know much about Mary Blair, but am making that my winter project. I would be very grateful for any new information you have and will of course reimburse you for any expenses involved. Incidentally, our daughter lives in Alamo,Calif. so I shall look forward to meeting my new cousin in the not too distant future. Until then, I look forward to hearing from you.
