    3. Dear Nancy and Maranda: I have read your post Nancy regarding the William and Ruth Paxton family. Maranda - what research that you have points to John S. Paxton being "Jr."? I got my information from another list and another source and that is where I picked up the "Jr." suffix. Nancy - your post cites that William and Ruth had a son, John S. Do you know when he was born? I am just wondering if we are all looking in the wrong direction for a John S. Paxton, Sr., when one doesn't exist or was possibly a grandfather rather than a father?? Just food for thought. Take care, Barbara York ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nancy Curran" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, April 05, 2000 9:39 PM Subject: Re: [PAXTON-L] Paxton of Wash DC : Hi Maranda, : > William PAXTON b. abt. 1777 in Baltimore, MD, married Ruth SELMAN on : > July 23, 1802, in Frederick County, MD. Devine Wheelwright 27M Ireland : Mary Devine 30F MD. : Thomas Queen 12M Co Wash DC : My attempt at analyzing household: : 1. Ruth A. Paxton was Ruth Selman b. 1784 who married William Paxton in : 1802. : 2. Ann Selman - probably a sister-in law, since no record that Ruth had : a : sister Ann. : 3. Thomas Paxton was the youngest son of Ruth and William, born when : Ruth : was 43. (my g grandfather, Thomas Selman) : 4. Florida Paxton - maybe a grandchild and orphaned or just living with : Ruth. : 5. Robert M.C. Devine & : 6. Mary Devine - my guess is that Mary and Robert had been married less : than 2 years and she was pregnant. Mary was probably related to William and : Ruth in some way, staying at Ruth's home at the time of the 1850 census. : Their child Mary was probably born after the census was taken. : 7. Thomas Green - The Greens were related in some way. Maybe same : situation as Florida Paxton. : William (b. abt. 1777) and Ruth (b. 1784) had five children: Altha, John S., : James Austin, Joseph and Thomas S.. Joseph was born in 1826 so he could not : be the father of Mary b. 1822. These siblings, all about Mary's age were : probably cousins of Mary which would account for Ruth taking Mary and her : husband, Robert Devine into her home. : Maybe if more turns up about William, it may show that he had a brother : Joseph whom he named his son after. : Ruth Selman's ancestors seem to be well documented. Not so for William. : His : father was probably Samuel Paxton of Emitsburg, Md. - maybe also the father : of Joseph the father of Mary. I have tried to learn more from the very : active group [email protected] mail group, but with little success. : If : you find anything that will add to the puzzle, I would appreciate your : passing it on. : -- : Researching Bowlin, Bumgarner, Curran, Cox, Divine, Dolan, Ellis, Gardner, : Greene, Guy, Holland, Hurley, Jones, King, Linebaugh, Marsh, May, Mc Neese, : Moody, Oliphant, Pickering ,Phillips, Smith, Thompson.
