Higginson has indeed republished the original edition, which is what you purchased, but it should be clarified that this is not the completely re-worked edition of Frank Paxton which is (presumably) due out next year. ----Original Message Follows---- From: eyvonne@sbcglobal.net Reply-To: PAXTON-L@rootsweb.com To: PAXTON-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [PAXTON-L] Re: The Paxtons: We Are One Date: 24 Nov 2003 09:26:04 -0700 This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. It is my understanding that this book as a lot of information, but not much in the way of verified documentation. Is that correct? --=======265C4D0D======= Content-Type: text/plain; x-avg-checked=avg-ok-12DD7583; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Jeanne, I'm so glad to have you back online. I tried to contact you prior to our going to Rockbridge County last summer, but wasn't able to. Thus - we missed this cemetery. We went to the Glasgow (Old Paxton) Cemetery in Glasgow first. I believe the oldest Paxton in that cemetery is John Paxton and Phoebe Alexander. Also, quite a few of their family members there. They are buried under a large oak tree and the cemetery has an impressive mountain behind it. Next, we visited the Neriah Baptist Church Cemetery outside of Lexington about 6 miles. Lots of Paxtons buried in this cemetery. Most are to the right rear of the church as you look at it from the front. Some Paxton women who have other married names are further up in the cemetery. Because it was raining when we were there, I didn't get any pictures of these stones, but took down information on all that I could read. Then we went to Timber Ridge to the Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church and Cemetery, but didn't find any Paxtons in that cemetery. I think we must have missed them, though as I understand there are a few there. This is near the birthplace of Samuel Houston Jr, whose mother was a Paxton (Elizabeth, I believe), married Sam Houston Sr. We ran out of time, but I understand there are quite a few Paxtons buried in the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery, right in Lexington. If we could have visited the Paxton Cemetery you mention (isn't it near Buena Vista?) our trip would have been complete, but didn't have information on it at the time. We did visit Stonewall Jackson's home, William and Lee College Chapel, and saw two Paxton's on a large wall chart in the foyer. We also got to go inside the Paxton House in Buena Vista, although it was only open to workmen. Not many were working, so we just meandered through the first floor level. Didn't try to go upstairs because of the work going on. When I get my scanner fixed (or a new one) I want to put some of my photos from this summer online. Well, as I said, I'm really glad you're back. Looking forward to all that you can contribute to our list. Willie At 08:17 AM 11/22/2003 -0800, you wrote: > >Jeanne, > >This is exciting. I have been hunting a William Paxton (married to Lucy Hogg) probably about 1838 or so. I would think they were either in Rockbridge or Amherst county in Virginia and then moved on to Montgomery county, Missouri. Also present in Montgomery county was Matthew Paxton and his wife Catherine Hogg. I would guess they were married about 1835. Any information out there on these two? Joanne, Yes the tombstones are in the privately owned (by a cousin, who is a John Paxton descendant) cemetery. Joanne, I visit the Mesa library all the time, I live here in Casa Grande. The most important thing to bring with you is a pedigree chart filled out as much as possible with the names of the people you are researching. Also, there are several missionaries whos only purpose in the center is to help you with whatever they can find. When you walk in the door, there will be a person waiting to assist you, and they can guide you to the place that will start your search the fastest. Also, you are free to roam, or have someone help you. There is an extensive library, and the cool thing is, if they don't have it there, they can order from Salt lake, or whatever, and you pay shipping. I am not quite the expert at that library, but there are so many willing to help, that I don't feel so bad going there. Take as much as you can with what you already know, names and places, etc. Someone there will help you with the rest. :) Sorry if this didn't make too much sense. I have been out all day, and am a bit tired. They don't charge me a fee. In Salt Lake you can stay on Ancestry.com all day for free. The Genealogy center at each Stake Center does not charge a fee either. The only charge is for making copies of your findings, $.05 a copy. Boyd Paxton

Unfortunately I can't help you with your query regarding Jame's family - but I am related to Lois A MYRICK his mother. I have a lot of information on the back ground of her and her family. I am hoping you might be able to help me. Lois was married to a BROWN (who was apparently also born in Scotland) before she married Thomas PAXTON. I am wondering if you know the name of her first husband (? Brown) and the names of the children she had to him. I do have a William and Nellie. I believe Thomas PAXTON was originally from Scotland. Do you know his birth date and birth place? The children I have for Thomas and Lois are Adam (b. abt 1875), Agnes (b. abt 1877) and Joseph (b. abt 1879). Can you add more? Look forward to hearing from you.
Tamara, I checked for Paxton's in Hebron (Thayer County) Nebraska on the 1900 Census since you said one of the children were born in 1885 Hebron. Unfortunately I came up with nothing. But at least now you know that and sometimes the process of elimination can be helpful.
