    1. Re: PAXTON-D Digest/John PAXSON
    2. As a fairly recent subscriber to this list, I have not completely studied all the archives, so I do not know how often it has been mentioned that many Paxson individuals changed their names to Paxton (my 6th great grandfather being one of them). There seem to be two heritage lines: the Quakers from England to PA,VA,NC,SC,TN,OH (my roots). Another line is from the Scotch/Irish directly to VA. Many individuals stated they were Quakers just to get into this country and later disassociated with that religion. Some defied their religion and fought in the Revolutionary War. Hopefully this information will be helpful to someone and not too repetitive. Anne (annetp@aol.com)

    3. Hello, I just had to share a great find! I'm not sure how I overlooked it before when searching the usgenweb archives, but last night about midnight, I was again searching the archive for documents on Livius Paxton. What came up was about like finding the Hope Diamond -- a bio on Livius C. Paxton that appeared in a book in 1905! It has information on Livius, his parents and siblings, his wife, her parents, and their children. All told, it answered so many questions...and presented others. The bio is located at: http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ifetch2?/u1/data/co+index+184845457000+ F Great day! Tina

    3. Hi Boyd, As much as I would like to think we're tracking the same John Paxton I think they are different. My John Paxton was born in West Virginia like yours but I have record of him getting married in Greeneville, TN in 1854 to an Isabella Falls. According to the Censuses I have been able to track him from 1854 to his death in Kansas in 1905 and all records show him to have been born about 1825. There were a considerable amount of Paxtons in West Virginia especially Clay Cty so try looking there. Good Luck. 3. Hi Shirley, That's my problem. I don't know. My John Paxton is my brick wall so to speak. I have traced my family line back to him. What I do know from a biographical sketch I have is that John Paxton's father was first in Virginia and then moved to West Virginia where he stayed til he died. John then went to Green County, TN and married in 1854. I can trace his life from there to his death in Kansas in 1905. I'm trying to find out his parentage. The sketch suggests he may be of german descent. I know it's not much to go on but it's all I have at this time. Appreciate any help you may be able to be. --- shirley hall <shirleyhall@ntelos.net> wrote: > who was your john paxtons father and mother. send > some info > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Janis Bultema" <kbultema@sbcglobal.net> > To: <PAXTON-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Friday, June 25, 2004 6:03 AM > Subject: [PAXTON-L] John Paxton - Virginia > > > > Shirley, > > > > Appreciated your post. 3. Dear List Members, Please stop referring to the 1903 Paxton book as authorative. There are no footnotes within the book. There is no research to prove any of the assumptions regarding the Paxtons prior to their arrival in the then colonies. Perhaps we can someday find evidence of the earlier members of our far-flung family, but the statements in the book regarding them are unproven. It is definitely an incorrect assumption to claim a Paxton was in any way responsible for the regicide of Charles I. Those persons involved are known and published in the historical literature. Any new material will be gratefully accepted by all of us if there is substaining evidence. J.
