My paternal line is Paxton going back to mid 1800's Ontario Canada thus far (and census indication that origins are Scotland). As for swimming....no problem there, we all swim just fine and enjoy doing so. Feet. not particularly narrow but certainly larger than "average". Second toes not longer than big toe. Hi, My great-grand mother was a Paxton by birth. I do not have the long narrow feet, but do have the second toe on each foot longer then the big toe. My dad (Paxton was his grandmother) has the same and so do some of my children. We were always told it was a sign of intelligence, but it is the toe that always gets stepped on or stubbed. Don't know if it a problem for anyone else or just our little bump in the road. Hmmm... My sons all have big feet but not particularly narrow! Also, they swam competitively when younger and now either scuba dive or swim for fitness. Must be traits of the maternal side of the family.... I'm researching Nathaniel Paxton and Isabella Mcfarland. I'm fairly sure that I have the names of their children . I'm curious to know the birth and death information on both Nathaniel and Isabella. I have seen conflicting information. Some people have Nathaniel being born in Minersville, PA in 1754 and then dying in Carslyle, KY while others have him being born in York County, PA in 1769 and dying in Wayne County, OH in 1849. So, which is it? Also, who are the parents of Nathaniel? Thanks, Daniel Paxton

Having served his apprenticeship as gardener from the age of fifteen, and himself constructed a large lake when gardener to Battlesden in 1821, he was in 1823 employed in the arboretum at Chiswick, the seat of the duke of Devonshire, and eventually became superintendent of the duke's gardens and grounds at Chatsworth, and manager of his Derbyshire estates. In 1836 he began to erect a grand conservatory 300 ft. in length, which was finished in 1840, and formed the model for the Great Exhibition building of 1851. In this year Paxton received the honor of knighthood. Perhaps his most interesting design was that for the mansion of Baron James de Rothschild at Ferrieres in France, but he designed many other important buildings. His versatility was shown in ! his organization of the Army Works Corps which served in the Crimea, his excellent capacity as a man of business in railway management, and his enterprising experiments in floriculture. In 1854 he was chosen M.P. for Coventry, which he continued to represent in the Liberal interest till his death at Sydenham on the 8th of June 1865. Paxton was elected in 1826 a fellow of the Horticultural Society. In the following year he married Sarah Bown. In 1833 he became a fellow of the Linnean Society, and in 1844 he was made a knight of the order of St Vladimir by the emperor of Russia.
