I have no idea. We are awaiting a Birth Certificate at this time. It has been over 8 weeks so they may not be able to find one. All I know at this time is James Paxton married Martha Bell at Spinneymoor, County Durham England. If you think this is in the same area yours are from I appreciate any clues. Rebecca
My Paxton family comes from County Durham England (possibly the Walsingham area), but my line came to the Whitby Ontario Canada area about 1820, then settled north of there in the Port Perry Ontario area. At least 3 generations travelled together to Canada at the same time. The natives of County Durham were: George Paxton b: abt 1732, d: mar 11, 1809 in Walsingham his wife - Matlida b: abt june 1734, d: aug 18, 1820 in Quebec (likely on the journey) their daugther - Elizabeth Paxton b:feb 25, 1761, d: abt 1807 in Walsingham their son - George Paxton b: jul 9,1769, d: oct 3, 1848 in Whitby Township, Ontario Family of George his wife - Eleanor Thompson b: abt 1752, d: dec 29, 1846 in Whitby Twonship, Ontario their son - William Paxton b: apr 11, 1791 in County Durham England, d: feb 20,1877, Whitby Township, Ontario their daughter - Elizabeth Paxton b: aug 17, 1795 d: jul 25, 1873 I think all Paxtons in the old "Ontario County" area of Ontario are likely related. Please let me know if there are any matchs out there. Hi List, As far as I know, my PAXTONS did not come to the U.S. Is anyone researching PAXTON families in County Durham? Thanks. My name is Fred W. Davis. Searching names Reynolds, Walker, Caldwell, Davis, Harvey from WVA to Va. I am a descentant of George Walker Sr, Christopher Reynolds, John R. Harvey, William Davis, by marriage to John Caldwell Gent, and for a friend the Paxton line. A saying here is that if you are from Craig County, in some way you are related. Laura, You sure did come up with alot of information from John's pension papers. I will have to send in for my John's paper's. He was only in for 6 months. I'm finding also that he may have been married twice. First to Melissa Patterson and then Elenor Arnold. I was very forunate to get in touch with one of his great-grand daughter's on another branch of the family and she said that he was nearly blinded in the war. I sent her all I had and hope she has some information or maybe pictures to share. She is nearly 80 years old and lives in Maryville, Missouri. Maybe my John and your John were cousins. You never know. His mother Lavica Bower's had cousins right and left that settle in Missouri from Tennessee. I started to trace a Thomas Paxton, that also lived in the same Co of Tennessee that Joseph Paxton and Lavica lived in. I got as far as Paducah, Ky. he was born abt 1796 at Virginia and married a Mary Wilson. I have 2 web pages now. They are not the greatest but for a beginner they will do. I got one e-mail the first night I finnished it. I'm still trying to figure out how she found it since it was not even listed. i will enclose the address's. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Trail/2051/lindashtml.html?933045082700 http://www.angelfire.com/ne/lindapaxton/index.html Linda Paxton -----Original Message----- From: Laura Paxton <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Monday, August 16, 1999 4:39 PM Subject: [PAXTON-L] John Paxton/Missouri > >>>John Paxton was a private of Company H 45 Regiment MO Volunteers. His great grandfather was Everett Obadiah Paxton, born in New Jersey, and his great grandmother was Mattie Ward, born in New Jersey. I haven't been able to locate the exact place of birth for Everett, but I did find an Obadiah Paxton on the 1850 census. He was a 57 year old shoemaker living in Orange, Essex Co., NJ. I assume there is a family connection because of the name "Obadiah." Also, Everett was a harness maker and shoe maker/repairer, as were many of the men I located in Essex Co., NJ. On the 1900 Fed. census, Everett and Mattie's parents are all shown as born in NJ. Assuming Obadiah was born about 1793, he could be your Richard's older brother, or perhaps a cousin. I've done quite a bit of research into the family in NJ, and will check my records to see if I have anything on your branch of the family. Janet Paxton Yorba Linda, CA
