Hi Colleen, When you first emailed the census info to me it was all numbers and symbols. When I got it off the Paxton-L page yesterday, it was very clear and readable. Sounds like someone else did have difficulty with it though. I do thank you though for all your work in getting it on the Paxton page. It gave me several leads that I will now follow up on. I posted on the list yesterday and I don't know how all of those weird numbers and symbols got mixed in...sorry about that - it didn't look like that when I sent it, I had cut and pasted from Microsoft word documents - maybe that's what happens when I mix programs - a mystery to me. Colleen

Hi Peggy, Thank you for responding to my request. I think we talked on the phone several years ago. Somehow I had gotten your name and phone number - from someone in Salt Lake? I don't remember the circumstances but your name is familiar. Here is the information (or lack of) that I have: There seem to have been two Davids that were cousins. One was born in 1820 and one in 1824. The David PAXTON I am researching was born in 1824. The IGI records indicate that a David PAXTON was born in 1824 to Susannah DENNIS and Joseph PAXTON. His death records at the Mineral Co. Courthouse, however, indicate that his parents were William and Susan PAXTON. The information was supplied by Mahala HUFF PAXTON. I don't know if you are familiar with The Paxton Family - A Genealogy by Adelaine Doran. In that book she talks of a David PAXTON that was twice married. First to a Lucinda (should be Priscilla according to the census) and second to Mahala HUFF. She also states that the parents were Joseph and Susannah PAXTON. She mentions that a Martha HUFF married Henry PAXTON on August 26, 1847. Joseph and Susannah did have a son named Henry but he was born in 1834, a little young to be getting married in 1847. She does state that the Henry that married Martha was born in 1818 and was a nephew to Joseph. The same names seem to be repeated several times in the same generation - cousins often having the same name. I think that is the case with David. It is confusing because I have conflicting information about his parents. It would be nice to have something conclusive but perhaps I should be glad that at least the two possible fathers had the same parents and so the lineage is not too far off. It would be cleaner though to have confirmation one way or the other. I'm not sure how accurate the Doran book is but if you haven't seen it, it may be helpful to you. It seem to me that there was a daughter helping Adelaide Doran revise McClung's book. For all I know that daughter may be you? I've heard that there is a new Paxton Genealogy book coming out. A friend told me she saw something about it on the internet. Do you know anything about it and how to order it? My gr-gr-grandfather, Nelson Paxton, was from Allegany County, MD. He is buried in Mt. Zion Cemetery north of Cumberland, MD. He was born in PA. He had a brother named David, but I don't have a birth date or marriage information on him. However, another brother, Henry, married Martha Huff, and a cousin married Margaret Huff. Nelson was the oldest, and he was born in 1816. Henry was next in age, and was born in 1818. There were two more brothers, William and Josiah. Their father was William Paxton, but we do not know his wife's name. William was born abt. 1795 in PA. William fought in the War of 1812. William's father was Samuel Paxton. Samuel was born in Scotland on the border, Berwicke-upon-Tweed. He fought in the Revolutionary War. Samuel's first wife was_______ Bagley. They had 3 children, David, Joseph and Prudence. David and Joseph moved to KY, and Prudence died unmarried. His second wife was Elizabeth Lesher, born in England. They had 9 children, Nancy, Rachel, Mary, Ellen, Susan, WILLIAM, John, Joseph and Thomas. Nelson's son William Marion and Nelson's brother, Henry moved to Oklahoma. William Marion came through Texas on the way to Oklahoma, and while they were in Texas, my grandmother, Elva, married my grandfather, Edward C. Hart. I don't know if this is your David, but it looks promising. By the way, when they were living in PA, it was around Bedford. Peggy Hart Cooley Grand Junction, CO
I have one lonely Paxton in my family. All I know of Miss Sarah is that she was b/1810 in VA. She married David DeYarmon (another spelling Dearman - D'Armand) 1830 in Dillonvale/Mt Pleasant, Jefferson Co., Ohio. David's family was from Philadelphia, PA. There is also a James Paxton b/VA m/Nancy in the Mt. Pleasant area. Possibly a brother to Sarah. Any assistance appreciated. Audrey

Hi, I am researching the PAXTON line particularly in Allegany County, MD and Cumberland Co., W.V. Right now I am having particular difficulty in finding the parents of David Paxton, born June 29, 1824 near Flintsone, MD. His first wife was Priscilla Kimberly who I believe was the daughter of John and Catherine Kimberly (I need more information about them as well. His second wife was Mahala Huff. Any information would be helpful and greatly appreciated. I have tried to access the searches at rootsweb but my computer says it can not be located. Does anyone know what the problem could be? No, I meant we're waiting for a birth certificate on James Paxton. Let you know when we get it if it has any bearing to your Paxton. Rebecca
Yes Marilyn, I would like a picture of Abner. He is a g-g-g-g-great grandfather. Thanks Jean
