Is there anyone out there who is researching the "PAXS0N" family? I have been trying to find information on Thomas Paxson, born in 1801, who married Sarah McCormick. They had 10 children and one of them was my grandfather. I found a Thomas born in NJ in 1801 to Samuel and Beulah Atkinson Paxson, but someone wrote and said that he had died at age 2 or 3. This is the only Thomas I can find in the proper time frame. I cannot find any information on his death. If anyone knows anything about this, please advise. Mary A. Paxson Morris
Clark, Do you have any information on the siblings of Harriett? If so, was one of them named Joseph? I am looking for a Joseph Paxton (b. about 1804) that married a Lavisa Bowers of Carter county TN in about 1827. Thanks, Steve Paxton -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, November 15, 1999 10:25 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [PAXTON-L] Re various Paxtons Ive been reading with interest the various Paxton messages lately and thought I would pass on the following: I am descended from John Paxton and Mary Blair through their son Joseph. Joseph married Margaret (Peggy) Barclay. Their daughter, Harriett, was my gggrandmother. Josephs sister, Elizabeth married Samuel Houston and they were the parents of General Sam Houston. Harriett Paxton was born July 10, 1792 in Botecourt, Va. She Married Horatio V. Philpott in Lincoln Co. TN, 1813.. She died in Freestone Co. TX, on Jan. 5, 1856. Being a native of Texas of course I had to foIlow through to discover my kinship with Gen'l Sam. Have considerable info on Harriett Paxton Philpott if any interest. If there is a mention of him, I'd like to buy a copy of the book. This is my husband's line; his sister also lives in So. CA, and I know she would be interested in a copy, also. Thanks, Janet Paxton

Hi Janer, So good to hear for you also.Your Everett Obadiah Paxton very well could of had family in Ohio sending the papers.Have you looked in the Ohio records for his name ? look in the township records, his mother and father could of been from there. belive all Paxton are of the same tree just outher branches. That makes a very very lot of Paxtons, Thats why I stick to just my branch. There's also is Paxton name given to slaves from the plantasion when they were free'ed and outhers that had been taken in by Paxton's such as children. But all in all most are one tree.I have found my family in England, Ireland,Scotland, Weals. and all over the USA I do belive were every were. At least it seams that way.My Father is with out saying the Paxton and my Mother is a Rose and Smith. The Rose's are from northern Ireland they are call black Ireish dark hair some times dark eves and olive skin. The southern Ireish are red heads fair skin and blue eyes. I wont get my Paxton book till Dec. some time but I will look to se if I can find Everett. Best regards Jean Paxton Hughes

If I dont find them now I will look in the book for you and geet back and let you know one way or the outher. Have you looked in the Ohio Township information. So meany of the Paxton's started there and went every were from there. >> Hi Jean, Nice to hear from you. Although I know Everett Obadiah Paxton was born in NJ in 1851, it was family knowledge that he, for years, received a mailed copy of a newspaper from a city in Ohio. That's all the info I have - I've no idea which city, or the time period. I'm wondering if there are a number of different families with the Paxton surname. Regards, Janet
This was supposed to run in Sunday's paper but some are telling us they did not see it. On November 11, 1999, Sara Margaret Paxton Smith died in San Antonio, Texas. She was born September 9, 1917 in Matthews, Mecklenberg County, North Carolina. She was the granddaughter of William Sanford Paxton and his wife Margaret Ann McLeod and Isaac David Boyd and his wife Sarah Nancy Smith Boyd. Her parents were John McLeod Paxton and Janie Faires Boyd Paxton. She graduated from Queens College in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1938. For 11 years, she taught in different schools all over North Carolina. Two of those schools were Sharon High School and the high school in Whiteville. During the summer months she earned extra money by working at Belks and Iveys. She met my father, Cecil Gaddis Smith of Stanly County, while teaching in Whiteville. While teaching, she coached basketball, mainly for the girls teams, but during WWII she had the distinction of becoming the first female coach of a male basketball team when she pitched in to coach the boys team at the high school she was teaching at when they were left without a coach. After marriage, she became a true marriage partner to my dad, traveling to Venezuela first and later to Mexico, staying at home and raising four children in not always the best of conditions. When other mothers were playing bridge, she was the one with their children, playing games, teaching, baking, driving, supervising and advocating. When someone had a problem, it was always my mom who was asked to intervene because everyone knew she would do it. After her children left home, she stayed by my father's side and retired to San Antonio, Texas to be near her four children and her two grand daughters. She and my father became surrogate grandparents to a host of children they came in contact with and she worried about each child as if they were her own, giving sound advice to inexperienced parents upon occasion. She was everything a mom was supposed to be and she will be truly missed by all. Her fortunate daugther, Nancy Jane Smith Ward

Hi Diane, Thank you very much for all the information on the Paxton Book's. My best regards Jean Paxton Hughes
This book most of us are talking about was written by William McClung Paxton and published by Landmark Print Platte City, MO (LDS microfilm #0467967) and is titled: The Paxtons: We Are One! (Their Origin in Scotland and Their migrations through England and Ireland to the Colony of Pennsylvania, whence they moved South and West, and Found Homes in Many States and Territories.) William McClung Paxton also wrote other Paxton books that I understand is more particular to his line: The Marshall Fmily by W.M. Paxton - ambler, McDowell, Paxton, Taylor - LDS microfilm #0207302 Annals of Platte County, MO by W. M. Paxton - LDs microfilm #1321018 There is also another book, an update of the We Are One Book, published in 1987 I think. The name is on the web page of Frank Paxton's book. So is the author of your book William McClung Paxton or someone else?
