    3. Hi Paxton listers, Thanks for the welcome, Wanda. I don't know if my original introductory message ever made it to the list. I've had a few things bounce back. In any case, I am a descendant of Aaron Paxton of Menallen Twp, Adams County, Pa. through his daughter Sarah E. Paxton (my paternal gr-gr-grandmother). Aaron, his wife Hannah Group, and children show up in the 1850 federal census but I don't know who his parents were. Sarah E. Paxton married George W. Miller in 1863 and they lived in Menallen Twp, Adams County and later in Alga, Cumberland County, Pa. Anita Camplese

    3. One of the reasons we are so far back is because we already have the information forward. Who were your grandparents? and their parents with the Paxton surname? I seem to be tracing a bunch that doesn't connect to any of the ones way way back. 3. Where to begin.... My family has been working on different aspects of the family tree for years, but I was never interested until they showed me I could do it on computer and incorporate photos and so on. It is addictive!!! I am researching my grandmothers side (Mitchell's, Laird's Zickefoose) and my grandfathers side. I have been able to find a lot on the Paxton side, but could always use more information!!! If anyone is interested I have transcribed the newspaper articles "Paxton Chronicles" that were written by Dahle. My grandfather is: Edward Franklin Paxton, b. 12-1-1920 (Glencoe, OK) Charlie Ira Paxton, b. 9-6-1888 (Kingman, KS) Frank Philander Paxton, b. 10-10-1858 (Richman, VA) Samuel A. 3. Hi Jean, The Paxton house in England is called Bycott House nd is in Buckinghamshire, not too far from Oxford. There is also a house in Berwichshire called "the Paxton House", but I don't know why. It is near the truly ancient castle which was a Paxton castle. Now it is a part of the National Gallery . On page 4 of the old Paxton book there is a reference to both the house and to Henry Paxton. If you don't have it ,let me know and I will photocopy it for you. My Photocopy is from a cousin in Charlottesville. If I ever find time, I'm going to organize all this mess I have collected. Incidentally, I've written 4 times to try to get the new book with no response. Jeanne [email protected] wrote: > Hi, Im also looking for a Henry Paxton. have no middle name. 3. This may be an inappropriate request, as I am still kind of new to genealogy, but it seems that most of the queries posted to the list contain ancestors dating in the 1700's and early 1800's. As I have not had much luck researching my branch of the Paxton's, it would be very helpful to me in making a link, if people provided more current info along with the older info if it is available. If this is possible, I would really appreciate it, I think it would help a lot. Lisa (Paxton) Reed

    3. Hi David, I am interested to know if you have any documentation for the earliest Paxtons. I am a Paxton descendant oof ohn Paxton. I think(?) there is a great deal of confusion of the generations because the saame names were used so often and in so many generations. I will be happy to share any data which I have that can be proven. Where do you live? There is some information in the Stuart papers at W&L in Lexington, va. Shall look forward to hearing from you. 2. Lisa, I don't know if we're relatives or not & I don't have much information on the PAXTON's. As far as I can tell my line came from New York to South Dakota. Does this mean anything to you? My great great grandfather's name was Henry Paxton, as far as I know at this writing he came from Potsdam, New York & migrated west to Athol, South Dakota with his family. The only child of his that I know anything about is George Barney Paxton who was my great grandfather, he was born in Potsdam, New York in 1856. George Barney married Jessie May Spencer in 1883 in Waterman, IL. I have a list of his children that I got from my grandfather George Henry Paxton who was born in 1899, in Athol, South Dakota & migrated to Illinois, I'm not sure why. My grandfather George Henry had two children, one of which was my father, Lewis Alfred Paxton who was born in 1924 in Adair, IL the other child was a girl. I have one brother Michael Lynn Paxton who was born in 1949 in Avon, IL. Michael has one son & two daughters. Jeremy Lewis Paxton was born in 1981, in Davenport, Iowa. Jeremy is my nephew & the next to carry on the PAXTON name from my line away. That's all I know except for a few dates, if this means anything to you let me know. Sue

    3. Hello, My name is David Guthrie and I am researching my Paxton ancestors. The same names in different branches of the Paxtons is very confusing. I would welcome any information on how to purchase one of the books on the Paxtons. This is what I have on my line: The John Paxton in #4 is probably General Sam Houston's GF by his daughter Elizabeth. 1. James Paxton, fled to Ireland from Scotland (Berwickshire), died in Ireland, after which his three sons (Wm., Thomas, Samuel) came to America... 2. son Samuel Paxton (b.1670, d.1746) father of... 3. William Paxton (b.1751, d.4/16/1817), married Elizabeth Stuart (b.6/13/1755, d.11/16/1826), parents of... 6. James Paxton (b.5/4/1790, d.3/5/1858), married twice (1st-Eliz. Blair - 6 children; 2nd- Elizabeth (Poage) Gibson-8 children), "born at the old homestead on James River near Balcony Falls in Rockbridge Co., VA and lived their all his life", with Poage parents of.. 7. Adeline Barclay Paxton (b.1/8/1830, d.1/8/1901), married John Gilkeson Guthrie 12/16/1846 (my GG grandparents), parents of 8 children. Any information to confirm or modify this would be appreciated.

    2. William PAXTON b. abt. 1777 in Baltimore, Md. married Ruth Selman on July 23, 1802, in Frederick County. 1. [PAXTON-L] Paxton Surname
    2. Hi, My great great grandfathers name was Henry Paxton. I have very little information about him basically just his name. I do know he migrated form Potsdam, New York west to Athol, South Dakota. My great grandfathers name was George Barney Paxton and my grandfathers name was George Henry Paxton. George Henry Paxton was born in Athol, South Dakota but migrated to Adair, Illinois. I'm not sure if he was a child when he moved or not, or if his move was work related. My father Lewis Alfred Paxton was born in Adair, Illinois on April 27, 1924. Do you have any information on this family line? My email address is [email protected] Thanks. GSP

    2. Connie: Sorry ro take so long but December was hectic. If you can find a copy of Adelaide Doran's "The Paxton Family", you will find on page 254 a rundown on your Samuel. I find using Mrs. Doran's book much more helpful than W. M. Paxton's book even if it doesn't have an index. I'm also trying to connect a Samuel to John Paxton of Fayette Co. My Samuel is probably either a son or grandson since John sold him 160 acres of land in Ohio for the sum of twenty cents. Since John had just finished paying off the US Government $320 for the land there must be a fairly close connection. Do you have anything on John's descendants that would help? Jean M. "C.L. 3. Does anyone have James McNary and Margaret Paxton in Washington County, PA? This marriage is probably before 1800 in either York Cty, (present Adams Cty) or Washington County, PA. Possibly Chariters Township.
