Does anyone know the names of the others of this Thomas Paxton's son John and Sarah Walker? I am looking for the parents of William Mordicai Paxton who was born in Virginia about 1820 and married Nancy Purcell in Washington County, Tennessee in 1840. Any help would be appreciated. This John was born in 1747, died 1832..don't know if this will help but hope so. Good luck. Jean: This is what we know about the family: Samuel Paxton, b about 1804-1805, place unknown, married Amy Wilcox 11 Sep 1823 in Franklin Co. OH. Died in Franklin Co OH 1 Sept 1849. James M. Paxton, b abt 1808, possibly KY (he gave that as birthplace on 1860 or 1870 census), married ????, d 1873-ish somewhere in OH (I don't have it on this list & don't have time to dig for the info.) Mary Paxton b 21 Feb 1809, married 1) Benega/Beneger Miles in Franklin Co OH, md 2) Robert Brown. There is also supposedly a John Paxton as a brother, but I have no data on him at all. Father of these children is unknown, but according to marriage records for Samuel, was dead at the time Samuel applied for his marriage license. Mother's name may be Nancy, maiden name unknown. In 1827 a Nancy Paxton married Preserved Leonard in Franklin Co. OH. The 1830 census lists her as a 50-60 year old male (I've heard of a boy named Sue, but never a Nancy). I'm crossing my fingers that you might have a clue for us. My cousins & I have been hunting for this family for more than 20 years. Same boat as me, only mine is a ggg grandfather, Samuel Paxton, with no known parents (although we do have a couple brothers & a sister for him). My Samuel was born about 1804-1805 or so, married in 1823 in Franklin Co. Ohio to Amy Wilcox, and died in Franklin Co. OH in 1849. Samuel & Amy named one of their sons Abraham McDowell Paxton, so I keep wondering if there is a connection to the Rockbridge Co. VA line, but it appears that Samuel & his brother James (who married Amy after Sam died) were dropped off by an alien spaceship. I have a ggg-gm with no known ancestors. Miss Sarah Paxton was born 1810 VA. By 1830 she was in Smithfield/Mt Pleasant, Jefferson Co., Ohio married to David DeYARMON. My line goes from their eldest daughter, Mary Jane m/George HAYNES b/1829 in Waddesdon, Buckingham England. There is a James Paxton in the same area and time frame m/Nancy. He was also b/VA. Amos Paxton b/VA, came through the area of Jefferson Co. He and David DeYARMON traveled into Iowa. Amos remained there and married with family. After the first wife of Amos died; he married David's sister Sarah DeYARMON. There are a large number of Paxtons in Rockbridge and Loudon Co., Va; but nothing for any connections. TIA Audrey
Hello. I'm looking for any information on Beatrice Annie Paxton, who married Alfred Charles Waterhouse. All I know about her is that she was born around 1884 in England. Her and Alfred had 7 children. I know that they had some of their children in England, and that they were in Canada by 1915. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, Justin Funston [email protected]

I have not been able to locate my gr-gr-grandfather, William Paxton, on the 1850 Census in NC or SC. He was born ca 1822 in Mecklenburg County, NC. He served in the Mexican War and was discharged at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri on July 31, 1848. I am wondering if he perhaps stayed in Missouri for awhile before returning to NC. I know he was in NC by Dec, 1851 when my gr-grandfather Green Caldwell Paxton was born. Does anyone have any resource that would show the Paxtons in the 1850 Missouri Census? If so, could you please check for a William Paxton, born ca 1822 in NC? Thanks! Wanda

Sorry I haven't been in touch before now but I've been sick with the flu. My maiden name is Paxton and I grew up in Scotland. I'm looking for any relatives that might still be in Scotland or in England. My grandfather was James William Paxton, he was killed during world war 1 in France. He had a brother who emigrated to Chicago and it is his family I am trying to locate. My grandfather had a brother Tom, and a brother George, a sister named Jane and a sister named Annie. They all lived in Fauldhouse, near Edinburgh, in Scotland and I knew them when I was a child. Sadly they are all dead now but I would like to get in touch with any of their family members. I also know of Jane's son whose name was Charlie, he was in the London Police force and his son is also called Charlie. Thank you for any help you can give me. Hello Family (as we are all related somehow somewhere.....) Anyway, I have had many emails asking for the Paxton newspaper articles. There are several. The majority of them are written by George West Diehl (a famous historian) and there is also a article about Capt. John Paxton and Phoebe Alexander Paxton (not my direct branch, but VERY interesting article). These are posted at: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/pax/PaxtonBios This is a great place to post info such as this (thanks for the idea Wanda!!!). Enjoy and let me know if you have any questions or have problems pulling this up!!! Who am I??? Where to begin.... My family has been working on different aspects of the family tree for years, but I was never interested until they showed me I could do it on computer and incorporate photos and so on. It is addictive!!! I am researching my grandmothers side (Mitchell's, Laird's Zickefoose) and my grandfathers side. I have been able to find a lot on the Paxton side, but could always use more information!!! My grandfather is: Edward Franklin Paxton, b. 12-1-1920 (Glencoe, OK) Charlie Ira Paxton, b. 9-6-1888 (Kingman, KS) Frank Philander Paxton, b. 10-10-1858 (Richman, VA) Samuel A. Hi fellow Paxton researchers!! I have been auditing this list for sometime but in the last few days have gotten some further information that prompts me to post lineage and what I am searching. I am looking for ancestors of my husband and this is what I have so far: James Walter Paxton, b. 4/15/1847 (place unknown), d. 10/18/1893, Cecil County, MD m. Laura Elizabeth Lawrence (place of marriage unknown), b. 4/15/1853 or 4/18/1858 (tombstone deteriorated), d. 6/22/1922, Cecil County, MD. Both are buried in Hopewell United Methodist Cemetery, nr. Port Deposit, Cecil County, MD. Known children of James Walter Paxton and Laura Elizabeth Lawrence: 1. Grace Paxton, b. 7/23/1883, Cecil Co., MD (as far as we know), d. 3/1970, Cecil Co., MD, m. Roland C. Jackson, b. 1881, Cecil Co., MD, d. 1955, nr. Port Deposit or Craigtown, Cecil Co., MD. They are also buried in Hopewell Cemetery. They had 3 children: a. Josephine b. Bertha c. Charles Mitchell "Buck" Jackson, b. 12/25/1902, Jackson Park, Cecil Co., MD, d. 8/27/1979, Wilmington, DE, buried Hopewell Cemetery, m. 1/31/1924, Cecil Co., MD, Reba Alice Nickle, b. 10/7/1907, Chester Co., PA, Living. They had 2 children: 1.a. Janet Louise Jackson, b. 10/19/1933, Cecil Co., MD, living, m. 1958 or 1959 in Perryville, Cecil Co., MD, Carl Raymond York, b. 6/29/1933, Penacook, Merrimack Co, NH, living. They have 5 children: 1.a.1. Donna Lynn York 1.a.2. Lisa Anne York 1.a.3. Mary Elizabeth York 1.a.4. Charles Edward York, b. 1/6/1964, Havre de Grace, Harford Co., MD, living, m. 8/8/1987, Elkton, Cecil Co., MD, Barbara Gayle Mackey, b. 5/18/1962, Wilmington, New Castle Co., DE, living. No issue. 1.a.5. Carla Louise York 1.b. Margery Jackson 2. Elizabeth "Bessie" Paxton m. Oliver T. Narvell, moved to Baltimore, MD, area. Both died prior to 1924. They had 2 children, Verna Narvell m. Kohlhofer and Clarence Narvell m. Elizabeth ?. 3. John R. Paxton m. Lucy, moved to Philadelphia Co., Philadelphia, PA. They had at least 1 daughter, Mildred Paxton, b. c. 1917, d. 11/2/1997 according to obituary from West Chester Daily Local News of 11/4/1997. Mildred married Robert L. Shannon and they had at least 3 children, Nancy Lee, Michael L. and Robert L. (NOTE: This obituary was posted by Wanda on the Paxton-D Digest V97 Issue #80). NOTE: There are several other what I assume are children and/or grandchildren and their spouses listed in a deed recorded among the Land Records of Cecil County in 1924 in order to convey out any remaining interest in a property James Walter Paxton owned at the time of his death. A certain percentage would have passed to Laura, his wife, and a certain percentage to his children upon his death and it would have been necessary for all heirs and heirs at law to join into a conveyance to another party to establish clear title to the property. The deed is signed and recorded 2 years after Laura's death in 1922. Okay - so this is definitely what I know to be true. The only other info I have is that possibly James Walter Paxton was a salesman or worked in some capacity for Winchester Rifle Company. Now, here is some other info I found on the web and I have just started corresponding with another Paxton researcher on this info. She is descended on this line from the son of the 2nd wife. John S. Paxton, Jr., b. 8 June 1814 in DC or MD (conjecture), d. 24 May 1884 Georgetown, Washington, DC, buried Oak Hill Cemetery, Washington, DC, m. Hannah ? c. 1838 Issue (these are in home with John S. and Hannah in 1850 and 1860 census of Washington, DC, and all the birthdates are conjecture based on the ages of the children given in the census): Mary (1839) E. Amelia (1843) JW or John William(1845) James Walter(1846) Matilda (1849) Emma or Emmor(1851-27 Oct 1896) Samuel (1854) Kate (1856) Esa, Everett (May 1860) - Either Everett was a twin or his name was Josias Everett, because a grave for infant Josias died 29 June 1860, and Hannah died a few days before him. There is also another child, Hannah listed as daughter age 12 in 1870 census Georgetown DC. When Hannah died, John remarried a Sarah E. Neill, but she was married before and I believe that Neill is her married name. Together, they had 1 child, Louis Matthew in 1864, in Washington DC. Louis married 1883 Ellen Delia Carroll. Further, the other researcher tells me that the death certificate for Louis Matthew lists date of death as 14 Nov 1929; residence at time of death was 91 Worcester St., Boston, MA; Wife - Ellen D. Carroll; Age - 65 yrs.; Occupation - Clerk; Birth place - Washington, D.C.; Immediate cause of death - Natural causes (Hypertrophy of the heart and chronic nephritis); Name of Father - John S. Paxton, born in Maryland; Maiden name of mother - Sarah (--0--), born in Maryland; Date of record - 16 Nov 1929; Place of burial - Richmond, VA. Information was given by wife, and she did not know mother's, Sarah's, maiden name, so researcher believes that Sarah was married at least once before she married John, and that Neill was her married name. The wife of Louis, Ellen D., died in 1947 and is buried in Forrest Lawn Cemetary in Richmond. Her death certificate apparently lists her parents as Thomas Carroll of Maryland and ? Littlefool of ?. Now, Littlefool could be Littlefoot, Little Foot, Little Fool, or Littleford - who knows! Confusing at best! 1900 census of Wash D.C. has head of house as Louis M. with wife Lida E. (sic) including children John and Florence, as well as mother Sarah and nephew Charles A. Neill, and 3 boarders. NOW - in my e-mails back and forth with this other lady, she states that in the 1850 census James Walter Paxton of the Washington, DC, family is listed as 4 years old; however, in the 1860 census, he is listed as 13 which would go along with the 1847 birthdate I have for our James Walter. Of course, my question to all of you is - Have any of you heard of either of these lines or would have any idea what the heritage of either is or if they are in fact the same line? I make a mental leap of faith - LOL!! - due to the deed I mentioned above since one of the children/grandchildren listed is Hannah J. Todd, widow, and since the mother's name of the Washington group was Hannah and there was apparently a daughter Hannah named for her I was wondering if this might tie in. Well, I'll wait to hear from you all as to whether or not you've ever heard of this line. Most people say there were no Paxtons in Maryland in the 1800s but I know that James Walter first leased property from 1875 until he bought it located in Port Deposit, Maryland, and I know that Grace Paxton Jackson was "always" from Cecil County. Sorry this is so long but it's a lot of info. Feel free to post to the list; however, I would appreciate it if you copy me privately as I will be leaving for a couple of weeks on Thursday and will have to unsubscribe until I get back (can someone tell me how to do that, BTW?? :-) Take care, Barbara York [email protected]
